IRVING – Baylor safety Ahmad Dixon was overcome with emotion while talking to the Dallas media during a conference call shortly after the Cowboys drafted him in the seventh round.
“This was the only team I grew up watching as a kid,” Dixon said, while fighting through tears. “Watching the Cowboys is pretty much how I learned to play football. It’s a blessing to be a part of this team. My late mother was a die-hard Cowboys fan. I know right now she is in heaven going crazy.”
Dixon, who attended Midway High School in Hewitt, Texas, went on to describe a hard-scrabble childhood that included living with various relatives in different houses and hotels.
“I have been through so much in life,” Dixon said. “I have always been counted out. Everyone always looked over me.
