SAN ANTONIO – The forecast for Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J., calls for a high of 35 degrees with winds out of the northwest at 25 miles per hour, according to The Weather Channel.
So does that mean the Cowboys will feed the ball to running back DeMarco Murray?
Not necessarily, coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday.
“I guess the essence of your question is if the weather is bad do you have to run it more or be a more physical team,” Garrett said at a news conference in Irving. “I think that has more to do with the games that you are playing, the environment that you’re playing in, the opponent that you’re playing. But certainly people have talked about this for a long time in the NFC East – you have to be a physical-type team, I think, for a lot of the reasons you’re suggesting. You’re playing in these environments outdoors at the end of the season they are hard. You can’t be quite as spread-it-out, throw-it-down-the-field, all that kind of stuff because of the uncertainty of the weather, and your ability to do that. That’s been the story for a long, long time.
“But you have to factor in the weather on that particular day, the opponent you’re playing and who you are. I think you put all those things together and come up with a plan that you think might work for you.”
Really, anyway you slice it, the Cowboys could have a hard time moving the ball against the Giants in any kind of weather. New York ranks 11th in total defense, seventh in rush defense (just 98.0 yards per game) and 15th against the pass.
