IRVING – DeMarco Murray is no longer complaining about the Dallas Cowboys’ play selection.
One day after he ran for 175 yards on a career-high 26 carries in the 31-7 torching of St. Louis, Murray praised the work of offensive coordinator Bill Callahan in helping him record the ninth-best rushing performance in club history.
“Whenever you’re able to run the ball and pass it the way we did, you’ve got to give Callahan credit,” Murray said Monday. “He called a great game for us.”
The Cowboys (2-1) entered the game averaging 62 yards on the ground. Murray gained just 25 yards on 12 carries in the 17-16 loss to Kansas City in Week 2, a performance that led him to question why more run players weren’t being called.
Murray talked to the media for six minutes Monday after declining to talk to reporters after the game because he had to rush home to attend to a “personal, family” matter.
Asked if he thought Dallas would continue to display a balanced attack, coach Jason Garrett pointed to the improving offensive line.
“We’re as strong as we’ve been on the interior of our offensive line in about three years,” Garrett said. “…We’re just a stronger team.”
Austin update: Garrett called receiver Miles Austin day to day after the receiver injured his hamstring Sunday.
Austin, who missed six games in 2011 with hamstring issues, left the game in the third quarter and did not return.
“We don’t think it’s a severe injury,” Garrett said.
