Safety Play

It's probably a good thing nobody is talking about Safety.

Kazee
Wilson
Kearse
Hooker
Makumu

These are the guys who should make the 53 imho. Three of the top 4 Safeties are in a contract year, so I'd like to keep Makumu around for next year. Hopefully, they can get Coyle back on PS. Thompson has been playing well too... finally some options at S for the Cowboys.

Mukuamu.

Been reading and hearing a lot about every position but Safety. Anyone hear anything about Wilson, Hooker, Kazee or Mukamuru's(I know I butchered that) play. Have not read anything about them in practice or games.
Health is of big concern, but this might be the best talent we have had at the Safety position in a real long time.

Someone posted a graph on another thread a few days ago showing how the Cowboys have used Mukuamu at FS, SS, Zone Coverage and Special Teams during this training campand preseason. Mukuamu has been very versatile and useful. Based on that, I believe he makes the team. Hard to pass up on a multi-talented rookie Safety who is 6'4", 205 lbs and runs a 4.34 40 yd dash.
he is a swiss army knife that might be able to do a little bit of everything, adds depth to multiple positions and has a bit of CB experience that would be good for a saftey in a cover scheme....

Hey saw your buddy Fish yesterday out at 1 Cowboys Way doing his brilliance in the lobby. He wouldn't comment on his attempt at pushing you towards bankruptcy court (probably because I didn't bring it up), but otherwise he seemed OK.

Where did you get the information on him running a 4.34 forty? That's blazing even if it isn't in a controlled combine setting.
Here is the link...

https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/stats/Israel-Mukuamu-CB-SouthCarolina

It shows that Israel Mukuamu ran the 40 in 4.34 seconds back in 2018 when he was coming out of high school and about to start college.

This past offseason once he committed to the draft after his Junior year in college, he was timed at 4.46. Clearly, he timed slower 3 years later than he did back in 2018, but it's still pretty fast and doesn't mean he can't increase his current 40 time with better physical training and conditioning as a pro. The key is that we now know he actually can run that fast if under the perfect conditions.

Mu•ku•a•mu

There it is ^^^...for those who misspell his last name.
Don't know how he isnt called Mookie but ok.

If we decide to cut Mookie in order to keep a stiff named Thompson I'm going to be upset.

We already have one fake special teams demon....we don't need two.

Go with the kids and the lottery ticket vets please.

Thompson fits neither.

I wish you would have DMed me. I want my credit cards back.

strength is a stretch...I think they won't be a liability as they were in the past. that's a huge leap onto its own

i don’t think it’s a stretch to say strength. 2 above average starters at a position would be a strength imo. It’s not like a bunch of teams are out here playing world beaters at the safety position. If that group isn’t a strength to you then no team in the league has strength at safety

man thats the truth #23 seeing the back of his jersey all year chasing players who burned him was a memory i cant shake..

odd fans here rip Jaylon yet saying Thompson can do the job, seriously? Gives me headache.

Maybe last year was jut so bad we can stop judging players and coaches and lets hit the reset,,maybe the team was so bad nobody had a shot at looking good..i figured Thompson would be cut already but apparently being surrounded by better players this preseason has helped alot of players and coaches SEEM better so far..

As long as Kazee or Hooker are healthy we’ll get good play. Even Thompson can do the job.

Thompson cannot do the job. We've already seen that and done re-run enuff.
if you want to give him a dime role where he can be limited as an underneath guy, limited his responsibilities, that's how much we'd better off limited to that.
It's a reason why he was benched in favor of Wilson last year.

Thompson' bid is his special teams, and i'm hearing Bones has a lot of pull for who'd he prefer to keep per special teams.
Unless there's a surprise pull from the coaches for keeping 5 safeties,- to which i thought Israel M. is someone who they'd like to squeeze to practice squad along with Coyle.

i think the 4th safety spot may come down to Kearse vs Thompson, and who gives us more value on special teams and who is versatile and flexible enuff'
to be ability to play both safety roles.

they appear to do the safety bid by draft ..if it's in the late rounds (ala Xavier Woods, Donovan Wilson)

..and how much truth to the trade rumors that the Cowboys were certainly in the mix with both Earl Thomas and Jamal Adams respectively ?
They do safeties, but they don't appear to put much resources into the position either financially or high draft picks

I had this list too, but I kept going back and forth between Kearse and Coyle... keep the vet that won't dress on game day if there are no injuries or the rookie???

I feel our safety success 100% rides on Hooker being fit and healthy. If he is, then we could well have the best chance for years of a solid position group. It's such a massive IF though and can't help but wonder why the Colts let him go if they though there was even a 50/50 chance he'd be good to go. We are talking about a team with plenty cap space too. I really really hope I'm wrong but this is such a "fingers crossed" situation.
