I didnt realize that Bush had that many touches. He does make the defense change up. But if you saw the game McCalsiter was coming through in key situations and doing some real tough running through a lot of bodies.
Brees was Mr joe cool all day. Brees is one of the top qb's in the league IMO. You cant stop the pass rush all day, there are going to be times when the qb is going to have to deal with a blitzer coming free off the line, thats what defensive coaches scheme to accomplish, and no matter how good you block, your going to get that, and at those times the qb is going to have to make something happen.
Bledsoe feels the rush and curls up into a near fetal position (at least he protects the ball), but good qb's sense where the blitz is coming from and when the rush is on they have an opportunity to make a play.
There was a play yesterday, 2 guys came around the left end of the line, the inside one was picked up as it should have been. The other one had such a far run to get to bledsoe, but as he is coming around the end, bledsoe is still drifting back and staring downfield.....UNAWARE.....bledsoe realizes the pressure only as the defender grabs him or is within inches of grabbing him and tries to get away but doesnt.
Other QB's drop back and are able to see the rush, bledsoe drops back and seems to just stare in one direction, if you rush from his blind side he never knows your coming.
...with the QB on my son's peewee football team and I have spent the better part of this month teaching him to side step, step up or shift and reset his feet.
All with the goal of hoping he could settle his happy feet when a heavy rush comes on.
I see Drew Bledsoe all day in our football league. Little kids panicking in front of a rush and running, throwing off the wrong foot, throwing up prayers, into coverage, wounded ducks, getting hit in the arm, you name I see it every Wednesday night and Sunday.
We have a rookie QB and he has difficulty if the area in front of him is not clean on a pass. We did the obvious, we rolled him out with protection.
From that rollout he has plays that allow him to reverse handoff, pitch, pass, throw a screen and run a keeper.
The one formation with QB rollout results in (5) different variations and they are relatively simple, but don't allow the defence to key on one play. I don't know why the Cowboys don't do something to move the pocket for Bledsoe. Unless he has no mobility.
