Just read it again here today, Romo/Brees to Saints. Why is that a constant theme? Why not Henson to Saints? If Payton is such a QB guru - why doesn't he want to get the Henson from us?:

Why is he shying away from drafting another high profile Pedigree QB project ala Henson? And bringing in a slightly above average Vet at a $10M A year cost?

The part about Brees is not in question. It's a fact. We all know that. Didn't need to read it here. That's been reported by everyone. And when he signs somewhere we will all know that too.

The rest of the crap you threw out there is what is in question. And that is what you are admitting as more than speculative...by some here...notably you right now.

NEW ORLEANS -- Free-agent quarterback Drew Brees showed good mobility Sunday, completing a visit with the Saints in New Orleans and then flying to Miami to talk with Dolphins officials.

The meetings were confirmed by Brees' agent, Tom Condon. He declined to characterize negotiations but said a deal was unlikely before Monday at the earliest, with Brees planning to remain in Miami overnight.

"I'm not going to talk to the Dolphins until [Monday]," Condon said.

Miami coach Nick Saban and general manager Randy Mueller also met Saturday with Brees in Birmingham, Ala., where he has been rehabilitating his surgically repaired right shoulder.

Brees went to New Orleans later Saturday and left Sunday without a deal. The Saints and Dolphins are considered front-runners to sign Brees, the top quarterback available in free agency.

"Those are the two teams we have scheduled so far," Condon said.

The Dolphins are also considering a trade for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Miami wants to upgrade the position after going 9-7 last season with Gus Frerotte at quarterback.

The Saints are pursing Brees as a replacement for Aaron Brooks.

"You've got a young ascending player who's proven at this level he can win," Saints coach Sean Payton said.

Brees spent the last five seasons with the San Diego Chargers but reached a stalemate with them on a new contract.

Before leaving New Orleans, Brees said the devastation of Hurricane Katrina wouldn't dissuade him from joining the Saints. He said he helped build winning teams at Purdue and San Diego, and the challenge of doing the same with the Saints appealed to him.

"I think being a part of that would be a great opportunity," he said.

Brees tore the labrum and damaged the rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder in the final game last season and underwent surgery Jan. 5. He said Sunday that he faces another four or five months of recovery and doesn't anticipate any long-term effects.

There are also health questions regarding Culpepper, who has asked the Vikings to trade him. He tore three ligaments in his right knee Oct. 30.

Romo is not going to break the bank and would help in establishing the offense Payton wants to run there.

Henson isn't going anywhere at this point. He's still in the incubator.

And he's JJ's project.

And I do agree, the idea of letting Romo go and bringing in a vet to backup Bledsoe is a huge idea that must be explored.

With all this drafting and fine tuning in FA to fix problems and increase scoring..

..not having a veteran on the roster who can step in for Bledsoe if only for a few games and still be able to run the full offense is the difference b/w still contending and fading into the sunset if that happens.

After what I saw with Quincy when he was in there, we'd just implode into wanting to run the football 30+ times and kick FG's and punt all day to win games.

We know how that goes.

So letting the ROMO/Henson experiment continue is to me planing to fail if circumstances happen that we lose Bledsoe for any length of time.

Bledsoe is tough, but another season anything like last year and he's going to go down. The odds say it.

So then what..?

I'd be happy to bring in another young QB prospect. But to do so means no vet to backup and for the next 2 seasons under BP, we've got to have a Mark Brunell-type just in case.

BP learned this under the Simms-Brunell days that even as tough as Simms was..Brunell had to be there to step in and win for him in NY.

So we'll see.

The day we acquire a vet backup to me will be the day BP feels he's got enough rebuilding done to make a real run at the title. There is no way anybody can convince me that if this team is playing well by mid-season and Bledsoe should go down, that BP is going to be able to hand the playoff chances over to a virtual rookie QB like a Romo or Henson.

They'll never stand up to the pressure of the situation or the pressure of the coach in that situation.

Only a vet can do this.

To this point, my feeling has been there are still too many holes on the team to commit to bringing in a guy like that and paying him and preparing him.

That's why the Romo/Henson experiment and BP's willingness to ride that out while he then moved Bledsoe to the head of the line at QB. He now needs to backfill the QB position behind Bledsoe as insurance.

Now the next insurance piece there needs to be acquired. In FA, in the June cuts or the TC cuts.

It would be great to see Henson step up and be the #2, but we have no experience with him in pressure games and I think it's pretty difficult to imagine it based on what we've seen so far from Henson. I also have my doubts how good Henson would be in playing NFL Europe and then a TC and then a regular season.

That's a ton of football in one year. Could he really be an ironman and do all that and grab the #2 spot and be effective enough for BP..?

Big question.

Nors, you can come up with some wild speculation, but I've seen you also hit on some things that nobody gives you credit for bringing up long before it happens.

I'm on board with you on this one, too.

Who is the backup in NO right now or the starter that Brees would be replacing..? That would be the logical lynchpin for a deal like Romo to NO. I'm not all that familiar with their current QB situation. I do recall that they aren't enamored with the starter last year.

We'll see.

As a skins fan, I'd fear you having Brees more than Bledsoe. While he still has an arm, he's past his prime.

Brees doesn't have the arm, but he's proven that with good weapons, he can get it done.

Brees has repeatedly proven he can't get it done. Great job SD.
