Twitter: Saints Eagles Trade draft picks

Smart move by Philly.

Draft is solid and allows them another year with Hurts.

Young and Stroud is likely who they would be eyeing.

I think a big factor here is Howie banking on the Saints to take a step back next year. Jameis as their QB, losing many players to cap ramifications, Jenkins retiring, AND no Sean Payton. Might be a top 10 pick

"We like our draft picks"

(unless we miss out on a corner - then we wheel and deal)

I remember when we used to trade like this. :(
There's something exciting about positioning your team to have multiple draft picks in the first round. And then to do it two years in a row?

All these teams jumping around to take all the Oline prospects before we pick. :)

Difference is they stink against the cap.

They moved everybody and are already negative 23 million to begin next year. That's with Winston as their QB.

They could've went and got another star ... and been unable to pay them

Yeah I don’t think he meant literally, just that it’s the value they gave up

We agree eagles looking good. . This years mid range first has value but Saint’s still need a QB?

This also means Sean Payton trade compensation will be even higher now because they are out of a first rounder next year

Sounds like a nice trade for the Eagles.
The Saints did ok by getting the extra 1st round for this year. Eagles spread out their haul over 2 years.

I wonder if it is to preserve cap space for this year, as opposed to paying 3 1st round picks. Then having all those contracts come up for big money at the same time.

I think this is something else entirely, and it has to do with a report that came out about 2 weeks ago:

One of the biggest fallacies in drafting is the concept that a future draft pick is inferior to the value of a draft pick today. The reason this crops up is because no Front office executive’s job is guaranteed. They may not be around to take the future selection, where the picks they traded for today could save them their job. In their subjective viewpoint, the value becomes incredibly skewed.

So what is the report that came out which instigated this? Howie Roseman just signed a 3-year extension. His owner has given him absolvement from any concern over whether Howie will be using that 2023 first round pick. Therefore, Howie can use this information to prey on teams who are not in a similar situation. If the Saints are terrible without Payton for a few years, Loomis is toast. He needs to prove right now that he wasn’t riding Sean’s coattails.

with that in mind, no one could have taken advantage of this fallacy more than Jerral, he could be stacking his draft classes every single year.

There taking a big chance Atlanta and Carolina make Washington and Giants look like good teams. The Saints defense stuffed the Bucs last season. The Saints will probably add a receiver/offensive tackle. If not for the quarterback injuries the Saints make the playoffs last season. The Eagles can’t afford three first round picks no team can except for maybe Houston. The Eagles only hope to get a top quarterback was blown by not trading for Wilson/Watson. The Eagles are not a good drafting team.
