Short story: my son is playing football for the first time. He is 7. And its tackle football.

His coaches are lining him up at inside linebacker. So I was on YouTube with my son looking for some simple videos on playing linebacker and some drills for me and him to do in our yard.

One of the videos that came up was Jaylon Smith breaking down film and discussing assignments.

I skipped over that video so damn fast. Don’t want my son seeing that trash.

He’s still hanging around, but just barely. This is his fourth team since 2021.
Just goes to show you.....some players gets lots of chances to prove themselves'; or teams think they have the answers and proper environment. Jaylon needs to thank Jerry for his career.

Talk about the fickle hand of fate: a consensus top 10 (maybe top 5) pick coming out of college prior to his injury; and now relegated to a journeyman LB…playing for his 4th team in 7 years.
While I admire his grit I see a player with diminished physical skills and a poor football IQ. You have to wonder what could have been had he not been injured.

I can't wait to see him perform his finishing maneuver - the flying elbow off the top turnbuckle. He's sure to win the world title.
I wouldn't want him playing linebacker for any team I like, but I actually think he would be a great WWE wrestler once he decides to call it quits trying to chase the NFL dream.

Shoulda never played in that bowl game.

I know his career could have had a totally different trajectory….. but it makes me wonder if he ever would have really been that great anyway.

It seems like he really struggled with play diagnosis at this level…. where talent alone can’t get you by. Feels like he had a good year or two though and the league figured him out quick. Wherever the time missed really hurt him or not is debatable.
