Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Saints have pursued a trade for Cowboys G Ronald Leary for the past few months.

The Cowboys are clearly in the market for a backup quarterback and some have said that Leary could be used as a trade chip to net them a quarterback. However, Rapoport doesn’t specifically say the Saints would make one of their backup quarterbacks available in a trade for Leary.

Leary elected to skip the Cowboys’ voluntary OTAs in the hope of facilitating a trade. However, the Cowboys made it clear that they weren’t giving him away and Leary later attended the team’s mandatory three-day minicamp.

It would have to be for a backup QB, maybe a pick. Who knows.

IF they want to send us a 2 then we are in business.

They have no players that are backups that are any good we could use. It would be a huge lose lose situation for Dallas.

we would essentially be improving the saints running game while weakening our roster? That makes no sense unless they gave up a premium draft pick like a 1 or 2

Getting Cameron Jordan for Leary would be heavenly. However, I don't think Saints are offering that. I'm thinking it would be for the other McCown (Luke).

Some have said? You mean media types begging for clicks? Can't find anything to report on so you dial up the rumor mill? There are plenty of stories going on in the NFL now but I guess it's easy to sit in a chair and make up rumors.

Oh please, how would you know that?

He was last year. He is so far in camp this year.

Collins has those amazing pancake plays that we all see. He's also very iffy in pass protection, and has a ton to learn.

Leary is simply a more well-rounded player at this point. HOWEVER, Leary is about to be a free agent, and the Cowboys control Collins for a few years.

For Leary, his contract makes it so you can't get much for him. Collins could bring a big time player to Dallas because the other team would have Collins already under contract for a few years.

This is madness, backup QB is a non issue to me this year.we are going down with the ship if Romo goes down no matter the backup QB situation.

Backup QB is a position you address with a FA signing or trading a 6th round pick. I would not use our best trade chip on a backup QB. Now if you're telling me we would be getting a starting caliber DE or MLB then I'm all for it.

Leary is not a great trade chip because he's going to be a free agent this offseason.

I wouldn't mind Dallas extending Leary with a three-year deal and trading Collins for a big time player, which he could fetch at his age and contract status.
