They better get more than a back-up QB for a bonified starter.

Leary is not a great trade chip because he's going to be a free agent this offseason.

I wouldn't mind Dallas extending Leary with a three-year deal and trading Collins for a big time player, which he could fetch at his age and contract status.
And then leary goes down, and out biggest strength becomes a weakness.

This is madness, backup QB is a non issue to me this year.we are going down with the ship if Romo goes down no matter the backup QB situation.

That's a very short sighted way of looking at things. Not every injury is a season ender. What if Romo gets hurt and misses 2 or 3 games? We need a backup that at least gives us a realistic shot that we can we a game or two until Tony comes back.

Only problem is Leary's knee and then everyone in the NFL sees how Jerry rolled out the red carpet for a guy he coveted... only to trade him a year later.

IF they want to send us a 2 then we are in business.

They have no players that are backups that are any good we could use. It would be a huge lose lose situation for Dallas.

we would essentially be improving the saints running game while weakening our roster? That makes no sense unless they gave up a premium draft pick like a 1 or 2

So they weren't willing to use a 2 in order to sign his as an RFA. But they'll use a two and deal with signing him at this point? Doesn't make any sense.

Yep. Unless they get two or three weeks into camp and realize he is a huge upgrade and will make them better. Then they might part with it. Also draft picks are valued much higher before the draft than in training camps.

BTW the whole scenario with the saints doesn't make any sense, they have nothing personnel wise that we could use. It has to be a pick and if you are the team with leary then you have to make them overpay which is why I said I would not move him for less than a two.

If Romo goes down for a significant length of time like last year, you're right. However, if he goes down for 2 or 3 games, we could stay in the thick of things with a good backup.

If this team trades Leary for a scrub backup qb and some some other junk I'll literally throw up. Leary is a legit starter for any team in the league.

I would want a quality backup for Leary. If they don't have one, then I want their #1 for him. I don't want them to trade a quality player like Leary for a developmental player. You can always claim those off waivers.

There is no way this team is trading leary for a young, old, proven, unproven QB...there will be one available they can chose from the FA pool in the coming weeks. `Leary is way to valuable to let go for crap this time of year regardless of the need.

And then leary goes down, and out biggest strength becomes a weakness.

Which is worse?

Leary gets hurt, and there's a dropoff with Looney.

Romo gets hurt, and you're starter has less than 7 NFL snaps in his career?

Truth be known, Leary is a better player right now than La'el Collins.

And honstly trading Collins is a better move for the Cowboys than Leary. Collins would just bring more

I like luke McCowan, as a bkup qb, but they would have to get picks, or a good def player too.
no telling what they might do though.
