Meachem had about a 5 yard cushion to the outside on the inside defender. Instead of leading him straight downfield, maintaining the cushion, QB led him back to the middle of the field. If he had kept the ball closer to the sideline it probably would have been a TD.

I don't know if #47 was covering him off the line, so it's probably not a decent judge of the separation he was able to get, but he definitely had decent separation - the QB just negated it.

You can't throw that to the outside. He couldn't possibly catch it. It looked like cover 2, with the receiver running a post. Definitely want that on the inside.

As far as separation, it just didn't look like he had that extra gear to get underneath the ball away from the defender. He did happen to fingertip it nicely, though.
