I can see how if a team cuts or releases a player, they still have to eat his cap....however, I think in a trade, his cap should be negated.
I think the NFL should do what the NBA does when it comes to trades. The trade has to have equal or almost equal trade value (capwise)......For instance, if Roy counts 7 million against our cap.....if we can trade him for someone straight up who also has between 6.8 and 7.2 million in cap hit, then our cap hit goes to the new player, and Roy officially counts zero against our cap. Also, if teams are trading players who don't have equal value, draft picks can be thrown in and cash considerations can be thrown in.
