Salary cap problems?

Dallas Cowboys: Owner Jerry Jones made sure his team wouldn't be ripped apart during tough labor times. He's always aggressive in re-signing his top players. But the Cowboys are currently a minimum of $18.9 million over the salary cap, which could spell doom for right tackle Marc Colombo, wide receiver Roy Williams and others. We obviously have some "fat" we could trim from our cap by cutting players, but we can save a ton of cap room just by simple restructuring of contracts. Unlike in previous years that had a cap, we haven't done anything yet to minimize the cap charges for 2011, which is why we have a bunch of guys who have huge base salaries. By converting most of their salaries to bonuses and prorating them, we can save millions in cap room and have what we need to sign players.

But what about that cash cap thing thats going around? What if the new deal doesn't allow restructuring of contracts like the old deal did due to some new rule? I still don't understand why something wasn't done to alleviate some of these cap issues when there was no cap. Did they really need to keep Columbo, Williams, and Barber around last year after about week 7 when it was obvious the season was lost?
 
The Skins have a great cap situation, but only have about 60 players on the Roster.

Though, ones gotta wonder why the Cowboys didn't pay off some of those large salaries during the uncapped year?!

Word on the street is, they might lose Doug Free?.

Cowboys probably think they are built to win a championship RIGHT NOW, but that has been there problem the last few years.
 
I'm sure when it comes time to worry about such things that they'll have cut the approperiate players contracts, and restructured others, to get back under the cap. No worries about this for me, yet anyway.

I'd be surprised if the players would go for such a thing. Being able to restructure contracts is in their best interest.

Thats why I asked Adam about the cash cap rumor thats going around. That would prevent teams from giving large upfront bonuses when restructuring deals. Anyway we slice it, I still come back to them being in really bad shape if a new deal is done. I have no doubt they will juggle things and probably get Free under contract, but I just don't see much after that. I still can't understand why Columbo, Williams, and Barber were not cut in the no cap year. That would have aleviated alot of the current cap issues. Its not like any of them were needed once Romo went down anyway.

They were talking on sirius NFL today about last years cap or shall we say no cap. It was said, that there was an understanding among the owners that language would be put in the new CBA that would severely punish teams for dumping players with high salaries. It was also mentioned on an episode of talking cowboys.

Just a question, I don't know enough about it to bet, however, I'm curious where you guys do your betting?

Some things I would like to bet on...

How about week 1 Skins vs Giants, I take skins over Giants - it would be the first win for the skins (against the Giants) since 2005.

Certainly that's a favorible bet, I'm practically giving my money away, any takers? :)
