Salary Cap Thread

I followed the cap space closely last year.

The cap space for 2019 did not increase by the amount of space left over at the end of the 2018 season.
My guess is each year cap space if affected by different things, it is not a single entity that flows from 1 season to the next.
There was not anything in the cap space for 2018 that would affect 2019 so it did not change 2019.
Each year is separate, but sometimes things will affect several years, so that " rolls over" in a way, but maybe not literally.

Evidently hurns release may not affect 2020 cap, or if it does it will be factored in later.
With all the contracts, and bonuses etc, I imagine the cap is a complicated beast, way more than it should be.

The release of Hurns created $4million in cap space for this year. Prior to his release, Dallas had $19 million in cap space and the move now puts them at about $23 million.

However, this move did not change the 2020 salary cap space that is at $74 million.

Why didn't the 74 million increase to $78 million?

To my understanding, teams are allowed to roll over unused cap savings.

As far as I know, no one does this publicly. Teams have their own accounting, but cap websites aren't going to adjust for next year, because there are just so many variables. They just handle it year by year.

You can just assume cap will go up, and unused space is rolled over. The end of year incentives and start of year bonuses usually aren't going to change it too much. So, right now we have about $105million for next year.

As for the terrain. Gorgeous grassland. Made me think of what I thought an African savanna would look like. That fact, as well as the fact opposing force is always fun, made it probably the only time we actually enjoyed field work. Also for us opposing force guys, it was our last hurrah as field Marines

There is a somewhat funny story to Fort Hunter Liggett. That area (and I believe Camp Roberts) were given to the US by William Randolph Hurst to settle a tax debt when everything was crashing for him. If you saw "the Hacienda" that is the only cool all ranks club in the Army, that was his ranch house. I'll copy pictures below if you didn't see it.

The backstory on that is stupid like you would expect, the Army in its typical wisdom made it an Officer Club and then figured out they were paying like ten employees to work at an O club on a base that had like three officers. It was way before my time but I'm sure the NCOs said something like "Nice O Club, it would be shame if it burned down unexpectedly".

It's does not "rollover" until the season is over.

The cap space for future years is based on an estimate of the NFL cap for that year. Once the real NFL cap number is released the cap space changes to reflect the real NFL cap number.

If a player is cut such as a June 1st type cut, dead money can show up in future years. That would get updated immediately on otc or spotrac.
