Sam Montgomery?

No thanks...

Is that the :Anthony Johnson" coming out this year. Rated in the 1st and 2nd round by most?

Didn't Vontaze Burflict have character concerns? And now he's one of the best LBs in the league.

This was a good reason to avoid drafting him but not to avoid signing him.
Think about it, what could we lose by signing thi guy, nothing. But we could gain so much more.
he is worth a shot, if you want to cut him, then go ahead, it's not going to cot anything.

I agree that there is no tangible cost, but I think continuing to bring in reclamation projects could disrupt the chemistry of the d-line. Montgomery has/had legit first round talent, and imo was a superior player to Barkevious Mingo, who went like 6th or so in the first round, but did he learn anything from, not likely.

The Texans just cut Montgomery. He has 17 sacks in his last two years at LSU. They drafted him this year in the 3rd round.

With what we're doing I'd say it makes complete sense to look into him.

With what money?

And, who you gonna cut to sign him? Somebody that has worked their butt off to make this team? I understand roster churning, but you can't preach effort and teamwork and then cut a hard worker just to sign a guy with a reputation as a slacker. Just say not now. Maybe next training camp when he can come in and compete with other additions to the roster.

I'd cut Vega in a heartbeat...

Sorry but I disagree. We signed marvin austin and Marinelli said to Mar. Austin: "Unless you're willing to abide by these rules, you're not gonna mess my unit up."

This is the same thing he will say to Montgomery, meaning we will just cut him as soon as he does something Marinelli doesn't like.

you lose nothing by signing him, not a big cap hit but could be a very big potential.

cut the last guy that was just called off the practice squad and put him back on the practice quad. Who cares.

And any one who wants to bring up money, the guy was a third round pick with no production this year. Cost would be a one year or two year deal for the minimum. Of teams wanted to even pay him 3rd round money they would have taken him off the waiver wire.

If you pick him up off of waivers, you would pay him his rookie contract which is 500k this season. So I think we'll see soon if we want him or not.

I just think Austin's issues are different. By some accounts, Miami released him because their DTs (which they are deep at the position) are now healthy and having been released twice, he likely realizes his chances are running out.

great, we are sticking with "if they cut they are for us" or "if they suck, they are for us"

Everyyyyyyone was dogging him.. saying he wouldn't even get a look after his poor combine. He ran a 5.2 at the combine, was 20lbs overweight, etc etc. Boy did he turn it around.

Okay so Montgomery got 17 sacks his last 2 years while being lazy? Imagine him motivated haha. Food for thought.

Doesn't matter if they are different or not. Still the same principal. If he doesn't straighten up then cut his *** and your lost nothing. Nothing to lose with everything to gain.

This situation did make me think of Marvin somewhat. I don't have a problem if Marinelli says the same thing to this guy, and we sign him. We all know thats what he will say to him, so I don't see why we wouldn't try if he fits what we do.

Gotta trust Marinelli on this.
