Sam Williams Breakout Year?

He is a walking personal foul and a suspension waiting to happen. But, he can go get the QB if he is healthy. The good news is that he tore his ACL over the Summer and not during the season, so hopefully he is ready to go soon and 100% by week 1. I think the low discipline/accountability style of the triumvirate of Jerry, McCarthy and Quinn was the worst thing for him and he didn't get enough time under Zimmer to see if anything was going to change. Hopefully with a new group of coaches in town and a year off to look in the mirror and grow and post arrest and post accident in which he was driving 100 MPH we see a more mature Sam Williams. The talent to dominate as a nickel pass rusher is there if his head is in the right place and if he is focused on doing things the right way and doesn't lose control of his emotions and plays smart.
Good post ,I hope Schottenheimer can instill some discipline into this team .McCarthy was never able to bring discipline in to his head coaching tenure with Dallas.Sam hopefully has matured some he has tremendous athletic ability he will be a nice rotational piece if healthy.

Sam showed us all what he is over and over. Did he somehow get smarter? I don't trust him. Like the skill set but can't stand the mistakes. Counting on him is a bad idea.
As soon as he is declared healthy and physically able to perform in the NFL I would CUT the guy. He never showed much even when healthy. He has had and used up his chances as a Cowboy.

Shame on the HC if Sam is still here after camp. This could mean we failed to replace him or we still lack bodies

Hard to say until we can see him in a game. Working out in shorts isn't the same and he needs time to get into game shape.

that's insane that dude deserves every shot to make this roster he has all the talent in the world and you think he needs to be cut? Yeah, I don't think so..

Not shame on the head coach if the defensive coordinator says he can work with the guy and he wants him on the roster he gets him on the roster you do realize it's a new scheme and new defensive coordinator and mostly new defensive staff?

I'll trust if he's still on this roster that he's wanted by the staff... Funny some of y'all behind your phones or desks think that he should be cut without given a chance when other guys have floated around the league that have done worse or not lived up to expectations they get second chances.. This is the perfect year for him to step up....

I'm down on Sam Williams. He had 10-sack type physical talent, but his mental mistakes cost the team just as much as his sacks gained them. And now that Achilles might sap his physical talent.

Using that no standard he just might be the Pope as well...ever hear from him?

You must be his agent. Good job boyo ;)

and you must be a super pro that I don't know, have ran a professional football team maybe in your spare time, or are you the owner of one of the 32 teams?

you a front office guy or a professional scout for the NFL? I'm just curious where you stand inside this little forum with the rest of us amateurs and making this decision off of??

I know you believe you should just cut a guy before you find out if you can play but how about chase young you remember that guy in the league 5 years has only 22 sacks... 5.5 sacks last year and the AINTS just handed him 3 years 57M guaranteed 17M per...Huff got the same deal last year from the beagals did squat,

so, we got a guy cheap right now under rookie contract that we maybe can develop but you want to cut him before we can see what he can do? We may not like our front office and our ownership but they're smarter than that...

I mean I can see this happening if he gets in trouble again he's not working hard in training camp if he doesn't look good in preseason who knows but I'm telling you you don't give up on a guy with a first step in speed like that the instincts that he has I know we just went through it with Gregory but hell even the Denver Broncos saw something in him.. Yes they overpaid but right now we have Sam Williams under a rookie deal that we may be able to develop I remember everyone thinking chase young S career was all but over and somehow he got paid by the Saints..

He was a starting DE last year until his injury.
That's what I can't figure out I'm thinking this guy personally damaged one of his family members lol maybe there's something weird going on I say let's see how the guy develops.. The Saints just paid a guy and chase young who only had five and a half sacks last year he has 22 sacks over his five year career and he's getting $17 million a year over three years and Bryce huff last year did nothing for his 17,000,000 you don't give up on a guy that has a first step in speed and instincts that just needs to develop..

Of course this is his last chance I mean this is it he's got a new start with a new coaching staff a great defensive coordinator and defensive staff that if you can't flourish then it's over...

With them brining Fowler back the roster math does start to put Sam Williams in a tough spot. Unless an injury opens up another spot you typically will only keep 5 DEs on your roster. Fowler/Parsons/Kneeland seem like locks. That leaves two spots for Williams/Turner/Wheat. Right now I'd say its pretty safe to say Williams has the inside track there, but if we see another edge signing or they like one in the draft that might be three guys fighting for just the one spot.

Honestly if you were to draft an EDGE in the 1st three rounds I wouldnt hesitate to shop Williams for late 4th/early 5th round pick.

The thing to remember is that Williams got injured very early in the preseason. Hopefully, he has been using the time to get stronger in other areas.
