Samuel could have easily commanded a deal in the neighborhood of 6 year $47 million with a signing bonus of $15 million.
So I would be upset to!
HMMM...... almost 8 million dollars to practice, train, and play a game.... hmmm sure sounds terrible to me.
Lets see why would he be so mad about making 8 million dollars maybe because this was his contract year???? He busted his butt like many players do during their contract years and now wants to get payed and if he sucks next year alteast he got his 15 million right? Well now he has to go out and bust his butt another year to prove he's worth the money. And there we have it the reason why a player gets mad for being franchised. One year of being franchised and proving you deserve that kind of money and then getting the contract (which would probably be more this time for two years of top level play). 8 Million franchise + 15 million signing + 4 million salary = 27 over two years. 15 Million signing + 4 million salary + 4 million salary = 23 million over two years.
In the players defence it is BS when a team just keeps franchising them instead of signing them to a big deal or letting them go. One year should be all a team is allowed to franchise a player.
By the way, I know a few years ago a team could franchise a guy for as long as they wanted (I believe the Pats did it to Vinitari for 3 straight years). However I remember hearing during last years labor negotiations that they were changing up the franchise tag process, does anybody know the specifics on it? Did they limit the amount of times a player can be slapped with it?
