Much ado about absolutely nothing.

Doomsday101;3453239 said:Do not work there but it is the principal of the matter. I would figure a city in trouble would be concerned more about the business of running a city than dictating what type of beverage can be sold from a soft drink vending machine.
CoCo;3453248 said:I suspect this is rooted in the legislative trend around nutrition in public schools. There is a serious childhood obesity issue. Drinks are just a part of it. But perhaps SF city government is trying to not appear hypocritical out of concern for our children.
Pop is being eliminated from vending machines all across our public schools.

There is no principal of any issue when I don't live there. I could give a rats behind if San Francisco wants to ban Dallas Cowboys apparel from being sold in Wal-Marts on Tuesdays.
If you want a Coca-Cola that bad, walk down the street and get one. Or do what most people would do anyway - bring them in and stock your mini fridge.
Who buys from vending machines anymore, seriously? That's like buying a beer at a restaurant for $5.50 when $1 more will get you six at 7-Eleven.
No more fatty fat fatties for our kids!

If that is your additude good for you for others it is just another instance where people with the power are telling us what we can and can't have because they seem to think we are incapable of making choices for ourselfs.
CoCo;3453270 said:Most everyone is capable of making choices for themselves. Making good choices is another matter entirely. :laugh2:
Seriously though, I see the wisdom in limiting what "foods" are made available. We are not islands. My health impacts yours and vice versa when it comes to health insurance rates etc. I don't see this as a big "mother" issue at all.

Doomsday101;3453275 said:Sorry I do. You are an adult capable of making your own choices I nor anyone has the right to take that choice away. This is a legal product if you choose to limit your intake of a certain food or drink well that is a choice you make. Problem we are seeing is where does it stop? When is it not alright for any Government official to dictate what you can or can’t have because it does not meet their standard of how they think you should live?

CoCo;3453284 said:For anyone to get up in arms about what is NOT sold in vending machines on city property is pretty silly. No one is telling anyone else what they can or cannot drink. The city is simply deciding again what they will advocate through their vending machines. It is business as usual in city vending machines and in machines across the contry where the OWNERS of those machines/space decide what will be offered in them as they always have.
Did people get up in arms when Pepsi had the contract in their city's building thereby refusing to offer Coke?
People can bring pop from home, or walk across the street and buy one at 7-11 if they feel the need.
I know there are plenty of legit anti-government sentiments. This one is not one of them.
CoCo;3453285 said:Bars make the same choices about limiting alcohol consumed while on their premises.
Walk out. Go home and drink to your heart's content.
