I disagree. The Pens had a better regular season record, even after starting out so bad. They beat the best team in hockey, the Caps. They beat the team that represented the East in the Stanley Cup Finals last year, the Lightning. Then, they beat and shut down an offensive juggernaut, while absolutely throwing everything, including the kitchen sink at their goalie and breaking through more than the Sharks did against our rookie.
If the Sharks were really vastly superior, I could see your argument in a 1 game winner take all. But, in a best of 7, the vastly superior team should always win.
IMO, the Pens were vastly superior because of Finals experience (even if only 4-5 players), speed of play (the fastest team in hockey), superb defense (even without Daley). Our defense was absolutely studly. We frustrated and basically shut down your two studs, Thornton and Burns.
You were a huge favorite to win the series. The Pens got little to no respect from the mediots and fans alike. Still, they dominated the series, totally outplaying and outhustling the Sharks. If not for Jones playing out of this world, the series would have been even uglier.
But, it isn't all negative for the Sharks. You now have Finals experience. That is quite valuable. If you can stay pretty much in tact, add a few pieces, you have a good enough team to be a major contender to get back to the Finals in 2017, especially with Jones in goal.
