Sapp sees DWare in Aldon Smith

I've been saying it for months now. Aldon Smith is the best 3-4 SOLB in the draft. Miller might be the best WOLB but Smith is the best SOLB.

One scout referred to him as "that one-armed a** kicker"! :laugh2:

Pretty sure that was Clayborn, you're referring to

If our scouts see the same thing ..... then you draft him ..... need or not.

I don't see it. I like Smith, but he is not as athletic as Ware. He could be a good pass rusher, but I think he will struggle in coverage.

Sapp is an idiot, that's my thought.

I'm not that high on Smith but if our scouts believe he can resemble Ware than i'm ready to roll with them.

Draft is going to be interesting to say the least.

I don't think Smith is going to succeed as OLB. The post above with the two pictures is actually extremely accurate

I don't see it either. To me, he compares to Manny Lawson (San Fran). He's tall, long legged, and lanky with a high center of gravity. Ware's body is more proportional, which allows him to torque his body when turning the corner around an OT. I remember when Manny was coming out, many here (including me) wanted him to be a Cowboy. The 9ers got him, and he sucks.

I think he could easily be a Strongside OLB in a 34. I don't believe he is DWare but I think he could be a real good 34 OLB against the Run on the Strongside and a pretty good pass rusher as well.

That said, I think we have greater needs than drafting a carbon copy of Anthony Spencer.

I'm starting to lean pretty heavily in the direction of our first two picks going to the O-line (depending on availability & value of course).

As bad as our safety play has been in recent years I still am more willing to roll the dice there with current personnel & FA's than I am doing the same with our O-line. We have too much offensive skill position firepower to continue wasting it due to a porous O-line. It is a tough call though, it seems like we have very many needs right now.

What about this lean?

This is the guy. It might take him a little while to get going because of missing last year, but Dez proved to all of us that you can take a year off and if your a stud, always a stud.

Smith and Spencer are nothing alike but that's a different discussion. I don't see us drafting Aldon Smith. I would not be disappointed if we did but that is not what I expect to happen.

IMO, I think he has far too narrow a base, too leggy and not agile enough to play any LB spot on either a 34 or 43.

I think he's a 43 DE that's fits best into a scheme like the Giants or Vikings run. In fact, I think that is projects to being a Justn Tuck/Jason Taylor type of player.

When I say he doesn't remind me of D-Ware at all, it's not to say he sucks.

I just don't think he's a fit on our current defense, at least as far as I know it.

thats what i've been saying, yet people think "so you want to have Alan Ball playing safety again this year?".

No, its not that I want to. Its the fact that I'd rather shore up the O-line, and then worry about secondary. in the secondary, we can potentially have someone to step up and do the job adequately (ala AOA). I think Akwasi can do the job and I would not be mad at all if we handed the reigns over to him.

Honestly I do not know A.Smith at all. I just thought your description of his contributions sounded like Spencer.

I think he's a much better pass rusher then Spencer is and has a lot more upside but a lot of people really liked Spencer when he was at Purdue so who knows?
