I personally didn't think it was a penalty. That is just me and I think the NFL is too protective of their QBs. I am glad it benefitted the Cowboys, but I just didn't get it. I really hate that too because it puts me on the same side of the arguement as Tony Siragusa. Yuck.

The thing that bothers me about roughing the QB penalties is that they just are not consistent. I can see where the Sapp play should have been called, but the week before in San Francisco, Bryant did nearly the same thing to Bledsoe and was not called. I actually thought Bryant treated Bledsoe rougher than Sapp. He seemed to hold him up longer and then slam him down after the whistle.

At least it helped Dallas.

Ref had blown the whistle before Sapp body slammed Bledsoe to the turf.

I think it was a penalty simply because I think the whistle had blown before Sapp decided to do the WWF move. I also think it was a makeup call, because Burgess or whoever who had just sacked Bledsoe right before Sapp, did the exact same thing and it wasn't called.

Another reason it was prolly called was because the tape of the SF game was sent to officials to review and to look out for certain things during the game for the very reason you mentioned.

Well good thing your not on the rules committee, the penalty is their to protect the 50million dollar men of this league. That throw down could have put Bledsoe, Mc Nabb, Culpepper, Manning, Manning or any other QB on the shelf for the year.

This is not the WWE. its the NFL.

That was a blatant penalty and he will get fined for that. You sir are shortsighted or hate the boys. Even eagirl fans I know knew that was a penalty when it happened and said as much. Anyone that thinks that was just honky dory, is bound to end up in jail for assault sooner or later, or did you just get out?????

I was thinking the same thing, the sack/body slam from the SF game was much worse - yet a no call.

You just made some ridiculous statements. First of all, no fine will be given. Second of all, they called the penalty because the whistle had blown before Sapp threw Bledsoe down, not because of the throw down. This is the NFL, it's a rough game. There are some big guys out there who are amazing athletes, but the protection of the QB's has gone too far. If the whistle doesn't blow on that play, no penalty would've been called.

You sound like a Cowboy homer, where every call against Dallas was a bad call and every call against the opposition is the right call. Take off the Silver and Blue colored glasses.

This statement deserves no comment but I couldn't resist. That has got to be one of the most ignorant things I've ever seen posted on here.

1> The penalty was a personal foul. All personal fouls are fined.

2> The penalty was slamming the QB to the ground. It had nothing to do with the whistle.

3> See #2.

He got to the QB fine, their's no reason to slam him to the
ground.I can't believe Siragusa thought "he was big enough"
I guess then you can't do that to a Michael Vick,because he's
much smaller.I believe Aikman got hurt by that same kind of
play.

As was noted yesterday during the game the roughing the passer rule was instituted to stop exactly what Sapp did, lifting the QB and slamming him to the turf.

It was exactly what the rule was intended to stop. So a person can argue if the rule is fair or not, but the fact is as the rule is written today it was a roughing the passer and was called correctly during the game..........

I don't know if ALL personal fouls are fined. They are subject to fine, but I'm not sure all personal fouls are fined. If that's the case, Sapp doesn't get fined. It's a lame call in my eyes. This putting of a dress on the QB is ridiculous. If a QB gets hurt, then so be it. It's a rough game. Now if it's a flagrant penalty with intent to injure, then that's another story. That was not the case with Sapp.

It was a weak call. Bledsoe was fighting to stay up and Sapp was doing what he could to bring him down.

That said, it seems like every week the zebras are flagging someone for breathing on a QB the wrong way, so I guess we're bound to get a couple of those calls.

But for crying out loud, they way they're officiating the game these days, they should put the QB in a tutu.

It's one thing to take a QB to the ground but Sapp lifted him up no excuse it is a penalty

Bledsoe's not the easiest QB to bring down at 6-5 240 lbs. Lame call.

Whistle was blown and Sapp continued sorry it was a penalty and was called as one. I could see the Ref clearly behind the play waving his arms to end the play and blowing his whistle. Sapp evidently did not hear it and continued.

Switch the jerseys around and everyone here would be outraged at such a ticky tack call.

Not everybody. I'd be yelling what an idiot. Just like I did when LaRoi got the hands to the face call and the roughing the passer call. Vets like Glover and Sapp should know better.

It is still a BS rule and it should not have been a penalty
