That's not what VACowboy said.

He said it would have been called regardless of the whistle, I don't know if that would have been the case or not but I do know in this instance the ref blew the whistle and the play was ruled over, Sapp continued and that is why he got the flag.

While I can't answer for VACowboy but I do think I know what he was implying, and that is that it was a penalty regardless it the whistle had blown or not.

Meaning even if the play had still been alive (which it wasn't) if you pick the QB up and slam him to the ground that is by definition "roughing the passer"...

The only good thing about that whole situation was when Siragusa was yelling about how lame a penalty it was and DJ shot back "They probably invented that rule because of what YOU did to Gannon in 1998!" I was LMAO...

Well good thing your not on the rules committee, the penalty is their to protect the 50million dollar men of this league. That throw down could have put Bledsoe, Mc Nabb, Culpepper, Manning, Manning or any other QB on the shelf for the year.

This is not the WWE. its the NFL.

That was a blatant penalty and he will get fined for that. You sir are shortsighted or hate the boys. Even eagirl fans I know knew that was a penalty when it happened and said as much. Anyone that thinks that was just honky dory, is bound to end up in jail for assault sooner or later, or did you just get out?????

Yep, I hate the boys. You can probably see that in every one of my posts. I am just glad that the prison I am in has a high speed connection so I can readily get to read your replies. :D

Correct.

I'm not saying whether it's right or wrong, but it's the rule.

Bledsoe's not the easiest QB to bring down at 6-5 240 lbs. Lame call.

 Ummm ok so it's hard to take him down so Sapp lifts him up HAHAHAHA

It is still a BS rule and it should not have been a penalty

It is not a BS rule. Any player who slams the QB to the ground like that after the whistle blows is going to get 15 yards. If you don't like the rule then get prepared to watch scrub second stringers subbing for the Mannings, McNabbs, and Vicks of the league. Qbs are fragile creatures and the league is out to protect them. Like it or not that was far from a ticky tack foul -- that was an obvious call.

You can still crush a QB -- on a clean hit -- but tie the guy up and then giving him a little extra -- not tolerated.

I thought it was great that we got to hear Goose comment on the play since it was his brutal sack on Gannon that lead directly to that rule. Big surprise he doesn't like the rule.

When I first saw the play it looked ok to me. A play like that always looks worse in replay even though it was probably the right call by the definition of the rule. Too bad we wasted the opportunity to capitolize on it.
