Thoughts on this show?

The season premiere was good but the followup episode today was not impressive. There was a lot of down time. They are trying create suspense but it's not working.

My biggest problem with the show is we know the ending. In the last Terminator film, the machines win. They never prevented Skynet from becoming conscious. According to that film, everything that took place in the first two films was a part of the grand scheme. In short, the dire future of the robots taking over was never prevented like we thought after Terminator 2, so it's hard to take this show seriously knowing that we know what's going to eventually happen.

That is the same thing I was thinking. But at the same time the last film Sarah Connor was also dead from cancer. While this one they jumped her death and she got a shot at going to the doctor and getting checked for cancer earlier than she normally would...so who knows.

I'm liking it so far.

And IMO, keeping John alive is the main goal. Preventing the machines from becoming "Aware" is their secondary goal. It's not about "how it ends", it's about how they get to that point.

I only caught a few minutes of the show on Sunday, so I don't have an opinion yet. Knowing what happens doesn't prevent something from being good. You still can get good stories and character development and such. I don't know if they will achieve that or not.

It has worked in the past. Look at the first three newer episodes of Star Wars. Wait. Bad example. How about the Star Trek's blast into history with Enterprise? Okay, another poor example. I am sure in theory that it could happen.

Me, too. I never liked the original Star Trek and never really watched The Next Generation, but recently have caught Enterprise on HDNET. Not too bad.

EDITED: THERE IS HOPE YET!!!!

Yup, you are right, I was wrong. They are ignoring the events from T3. Thank god!!!

http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20170519_2,00.html

''This show completely diverges from the T3 timeline,'' explains consulting producer James Middleton, waving away the contradictions. ''We're not trying to mesh the mythology of the movies with the mythology of the TV show. In T2 there's a famous line: 'There's no fate but what we make for ourselves.' So what we've done in the pilot is make a new fate for Sarah by giving her an escape hatch in the form of a time machine that brings her to [2007]. Essentially, this show is our version of T3.''

In a Variety magazine article, James Middleton says the show will directly allude to T4 which will star Christian Bale as John Conner. I hated T3 and am very pleased that they are eseentially ignoring that film altogether.

I can't watch anything Terminator without Schwarzenegger, it just doesn't have the same effect without him.

That depends...the young Arnold yes....the old, fat and airbrushed Arnold who was just looking to cash in his 30 million dollar golden parachute before going into politics.....NO!

Your loss.

"Terminator" has become more then just Arnold. I'd welcome any movie or show that doesn't have him at one of the terminators. The story is bigger then him, steroids or not.

Agreed, however I'm not sure I'm going to like the Firefly girl as one of the terminators in this one. I'll give it a few episodes before I pass judgement. I do like the other casting so far though.

That's the part that intrigues me about this series. She is the most human-like of all the Terminators. Does she evolve into more of a human character? The relationship between her and John Connor will be interesting to observe. Plus, I think it's cool how soliders from the future are arriving to help out the Connors.

Again, I thought the ideas were cool but knowing what occurred in T3, I wasn't that excited. However, after reading that this series will ignore the events in T3, I'm seeing this series in a new light and I think it could be exciting. I like the fact that this series will essentially be the new T3 since I absolutely detested the movie back in 2003.

The only good thing about T3 was the chick was hot. :laugh2:

I liked that one as well, but it does not hurt to have a hot chick playing a vulcan and showing her almost nude here and there.:laugh2:

Kirstie Alley in STII had always been the sexiest vulcan around - but Jolene Blalock was seriously HOT.

7 shouldnt even count. She was added to a failing show with a horrible plot in a desperate attempt to get young males to watch Star Trek.

I watched the premier and was blown away, I have the second episode on DVR. No matter what happens, its friggin awesome having a weekly program dedicated to one of the coolest sci-fi stories ever told.
