I play in a men's league up in Frisco at the Fieldhouse. I've seen him up there for the past 2 weeks but tonight was the first time I've seen him in action. #9 (or 33 on the court) is pretty good, fellas. "Barbie" Carpenter plays on his squad as well. He's a load...more physical on the court than the field! And I might say, maybe there is something to this "out-of-shape rumor"; he looked a little thick. Hence, the reason he's out running full court?? Please just let rec. play this get him in football shape and stay healthy!

That's awsome. Do you get to play against him? That would be surreal. I'd talk so much trash to him on the court hahah. Carpenter strikes me as a force on the bball court but not on the field. I don't know why.

Hail, I'd play him. But only for monay. Sweet monay that helps me cross the Jordan River. Yeah, I'd play him and beat him!

I remember -- was it Drew Pearson? -- who jumped up on the sidelines and injured his foot. On the sidelines. And no one cares that Romo is playing a game on surface that does not give and a game that depends on pivots and quick stops and sudden and accelleration deaccelleration?
Odd.

Professional Football players have been getting up basketball teams for years. They usually play for charity events but it has been going on for decades. I remember hearing about Staubach having a Bball team that played charity events, can't remember what other Cowboys were on his team but I'm pretty sure that Drew Pearson was on it.

The NFL itself used to sponsor a racketball tournament for players (they may still have it...not sure). That is every bit as tough as basketball. These guys are not shutins during the offseason...they have to stay active.

Actually, that happened right after he scored a TD... he leaped up to dramatically spike the ball, and wrecked his knee... you could see it buckle when he came down, and know it was bad...

Just another reason that I liked Tony Dorsett's TD celebrations-- he simply handed the ball to the nearest zebra... it's hard to get hurt doing that... :D

In the 80s I used to play racquetball with some of the Cowboys players and assist with refereeing when they played against other teams. I know I am patting myself on the back but I was pretty darn good. Local A player and B player in state tournaments. This was at the Irving Athletic Club. That whole experience got me into being not only a football fan but a diehard Cowboys fan.

I loved living in Texas for about 9 years. Both Dallas and Houston were single man's paradise with some of the most beautiful and adventurous women in the world - sigh.

Tony and Jessica must be putting on a show at dinner. Looks like a lot of fried stuff with cheese.

And if memory serves me right, Landry put an end to all end zone celebrations after that.

Deion and Michael have always said Tony is really good at basketball.

But Deion has also said he's 'pear' shaped. Gossip on.

what the hell? how does he have time for bball when he needs to concentrate on football?

He barely has time to sleep due to reading offensive playbook late into every night let alone play any bball......

Some dude e-mailed the Musers on KTCK the last few days. Junior read his e-mail to effect that this guy balled with Tony last year at a rec center and that this guy was shocked that Tony was huffing and puffing his way up the court.

A year, year and 1/2 ago, Tony would show up and play soccer too at adult leagues in some north suburb.

Going OT further, in the 60s my brother played softball for like the KRLD or WFAA media team, and a number of Cowboys would turn out to play on these teams.

My brother (not an athlete) would be in right and Bob Hayes would be playing center! ...

In those days though the media people were bigger celebrities than the Cowboys, and the players would actually glom onto a little reflected light cast by the news anchors and reporters.

I've seen the old Cowboys "Hoopsters" play several times over the years.

Some of them were outstanding players:

Michael Irvin -- Probably the best Cowboys player I saw. Didn't play like a lot of football players -- stiff and mechanical. He was very fluid and outstanding in the paint (using his body for positioning).

Michael Downs -- Could leap, and like Irvin, lean and fluid with a basketball player's body. Good dunker.

Everson Walls -- Best hand-eye coordination I've ever seen. It was more subtle on the football field, but on the basketball court it really stood out. Not the best athlete, but his reactions were incredible. Great defender.

Drew Pearson -- Finesse player who was very fluid and loose.

Tony Hill -- Good shooter ... who loves to shoot.

Ed Jones -- Naturally he was unstoppable inside while playing against the local firemen or cops.

Billy Joe Dupree -- You could tell he had played a lot of basketball (at Michigan State). Tough in the paint.

Tony Dorsett -- He played more like a football player. Much thicker in a basketball uniform than he looks on TV playing football. Short, quick bursts, but had trouble handling the ball.

I ran into Romo at the Fieldhouse a couple nights ago and we played HORSE on the court for a couple of minutes. Had to quit after H-O, though, because Tony was so out of breath.

It was hard for him to follow me around the court because he has a fat *** and an iron lung. True story. Nice guy, though. He fixed my flat tire out in the parking lot.
