If he means guys you've heard of most likely to be cut, that's not a bad list.

Not sure I'd consider Cooper or Moore anyone's favorites though.
None of the 3 are likely to start but Cooper could.
Moore could also earn legit DL time in a rotation or be cut.
These are vet back ups and if they dont win jobs are always the kinds of guys you gotta let go.

Considering 2 of the 3 were low priced street free agents and the other a 6th rounder who went practice squad this is a pretty easy list.

Have a hard time seeing Gathers crack the roster over Hanna and Swaim. We wont roll with 4 TEs

Hanna and Swaim need to reprove themselves, coming off significant injuries.

There's a fair chance that one of the 2 won't be here. Hanna may have lost a step, and Swaim already runs like Witten. If Gathers is roughly equal in TC production, he should stay because of his much higher ceiling.

I think this year is a coming-out party for Rico and Jaylen -- should be loads of fun.

Gathers is not 6-8...not even close! I'm just tired of seeing this lie about his height still being reported. He was measured at 6062 at his pro day last year and is currently listed 6-6 290 on the roster. Gathers is not even our tallest TE folks, that honor currently goes to Connor Hamlett who is 6074 inches tall. The only 6-8 TE in the NFL, that I could find is Levine Toilolo of the Falcons at 6081. In fact, there are only a few TE's that even measure over 6-6 in the NFL.

Jesse James 6070
Mercedes Lewis 6063
Rob Gronkowski 6062
Jimmy Graham 6062
Blake Bell 6062
Larry Donnell 6062
Kyle Rudolph 6061
Martellus Bennett 6061
Bucky Hodges 6061
Nick Vannett 6060

For those wondering, Jason Witten was measured at 6056 inches tall.

bottom line is if any of these players out-perform their potential replacement they make the team.

Rico is a tossup. The fanbase just doesn't know if he's any good. The preseason is going to be very important. You never want to develop a guy like that for 2 years and lose him trying to sneak him on the PS.

If Moore keeps his head on straight, he'll make the 53. If he's matured, he could be a legit competitor for a starting spot. Easier said than done with him though.

I think Cooper makes it, as long as he stays healthy. His ability to be cohesive with Tyron and Travis is going to make or break him. If he can take advantage of reps with them, he'd have a little more value than a possible late cut that may be a little more talented, but has no experience with these guys.

Can't wait for camp.

Losing Gathers, Moore and Cooper only means the Cowboy brass thinks there are better players on the roster.

I'd rather they keep the better players instead of fan favorites.

Or you could go rogue and have the outlandish idea that the Cowboys brass doesn't think for you and tell you who the better players are.

He was injured most of the 2016 off-season and into the beginning of the regular season.

2013
Broken Leg

2014
Turf Toe
Knee
Ankle

2015
Knee

2016
Right Foot Injury
Might not seem like it but each year has been less and less. He was available for much of last year. Lee and McFadden had injury issues for a few years......not so much now (not including the phone accident)

I thought he played well in Cleveland and he could get moving really fast on pulls; however, he did run "funny" and when coming walk back to the huddle after plays seemed to have a "hitch" in his step.

Assuming Hanna will overcome micro fracture surgery well enough to retain him is something that will demand proof in TC. The same can be said for Swaim, albeit to a lesser extent. I think the toughest decision might well come between Hanna and Rico.

I agree its definitely Hanna vs Rico. If Hanna is healthy, his athleticism is really underrated on this board.

Agreed. Hanna was our best blocker before his surgery became a must. Rico must prove he's improved at reading defenses and running his routes. I wouldn't want to be the one to make that decision -- it'll be a tough call, in any case. Hanna has the experience and Rico has the upside. If Hanna is still having difficulty rebounding from his micro surgery, it could make the decision much easier.

We just have to see how it goes. Would be huge if he finally can start to live up to his potential and it's mainly due to injuries and not the mental part or talent
