Scarface. State Your Critique

Really has aged badly IMO.

Although it was/is a great film, I imagine it is more so for people over a certain age that enjoyed it when it came out.

I also think the first godfather has not aged as well...however the second one has aged well IMO because they go back to another time and it actually looks better than the stuff set in the 70s.

I could easily see a 20 year old watching it and seeing how dated it is and thinking it is just hard to watch.

With that said...it is very hard to remake a classic and have it even come close to the impact or quality of the original.

It is much easier for lesser known films to be remade and done better.

A good deal of the action or drama films made in the 70's and set in the 70's just don't seem to age as well IMO.

Think about the dirty harry movies...Loved them years ago...try to watch them now and it is hard for me. However you put on a Clint Eastwood western and I am good to go.

Same with Welcome Back Kotter.

Liked it a lot and think it belongs in the top 100 movies all-time.
Not in my top 20 (it's certainly not in the Godfather's league) but top 100.

Rumor is that the new Scarface takes place in LA with the Mexican Cartel as the drug connection.

If that's the case it will probably be rated NC-17. I get intelligent reports out of Mexico and each contain several photos of dismembered, beheaded, and charred bodies.

The best one was... what I called "The Barbers Quartet"....8 heads displayed on the hood of a car.

Since when on earth do millennials hate Scarface? It's consistently considered one of the better movies ever made and has been for years.

Plus, the 1983 Scarface with Pacino is itself a remake of the 1932 version starring Paul Muni.
