I was 15. Myself and a group of about 7 or 8 friends were hangin out. Headed to our "spot" to get high.

So we're walking down an alley and one of our friends..Lee...picks up a rock and throws it thru a garage door window. The rest of us are like "hey !@#$#@ why the @#$%$# did you do that stupid $%$#!!? Then we all laugh it off and keep going. About 100 yards further the idiot does it again. We almost whipped his arse right there.

So anyway...we get down to our get high place....proceed to smoke out...then all of a sudden we see what we think is a cop car coming after us. So we scatter like ants.

It was me, my friends Blain and Robert walking up a street in the same residential area....and we see this guy who has ahold of our friend Greg...slamming him up against the back of his car and accusing him of smashing his garage door. At the time, I was about 6' 2" 150, but I was carrying a piece of PVC pipe that I had found. About 5' long 1/2 inch PVC. No reason..just carrying it.

All of a sudden, this guy really starts slapping around our friend. So we decide that we need to go back and help Greg since he didn't do anything. As we approach the scene and get about 30 feet away.....I can't remember if we said something, or if the guy just heard us coming...but he proceeds to turn around and pull a revolver out and point it straight at me and says..."anybody wanna be a hero."

I dropped that PVC pipe as I said that I didn't "do nothin." He looked back at Greg, and in that VERY instant we were GONE!! Literally shot out of a cannon! I've never ran that fast before or since.

I'll NEVER forget that...an angry man pointing a pistol right at me....I'LL NEVER FORGET THAT!!!

Still scares the crap outta me just thinking about what could have happened.

Same here.
I was convinced I was having a heart attack or something.

One of the scariest things ever.

I was under a whole lot of stress and was thinking myself crazy about very stressful issues that I had become involved with.

Both of my Grandfathers died young, before I was born, from heart problems, so I feel like I'm behind the 8-ball already.

Thankfully, it's never as bad as the first time if it happens again.
It'll still scare the crap outta you but you'll recognize what is happening just enough to keep yourself from panicking on top of panicking.

Funny thing is, after I had the first one, I caused my second one because I was sooo incredibly afraid of it happening again and at the worst time. I cause myself so much anxiety by dreading it occuring again that I brought in on myself. It's a brutal cycle that is extremely hard to get out of. Time seems to be the only cure.
But just as quick as that phase happened, it disappeared and has never returned, thankfully.

My uncle took my sibs and I to the original showing of 'The Planet of the Apes'. I guess I was about 8.

(fast forward)

It was pretty standard in my house, if you wanted to watch TV, you watched what my Dad watched, and after dinner it was always the evening news. I never paid much attention to it, til one night, I heard something to this effect:

In Belfast today, fighting brokeout between guerillas and members of the IRA.....15 were killed.....

Them damn filthy apes!

When I was in the first Gulf War... Trying to hold in the brains of a friend.. or when I got blown through the air from the force of the blast from a scud that killed a bunch of good people from Pennsylvania or having to go into that blast area and... well lets not go there... jumping out of a helicopter that was going down on a pitch black night into icy water with about 70lbs of gear on your back...or when I was in the civil service in Pampa and chasing a Tornado that decided to double back or being arrested for Murder not once but twice in a foreign land...or being robbed at gun point...well I have a long list that would take a good two pages but you get the drift...I was told once that I have a guardian Angel and I guess maybe I do but I bet he/she ain't to happy with me

Unfortunately, my scariest moments were for the same reason....

On two different occasions, a guy tried to attack me. Both were friends. Well, one was a friend. The other was a friend of the family. First guy wasn't that bad, tho it scared me. Once he realized I was serious and that he got scared and begged for me not to tell anyone. Since I wasn't injured or anything and he really didn't get that far, I didn't.

Second guy was a little more forceful in his efforts. I honestly had to fight him off and then run away. Told my Mom and she made sure we were never alone again. Just one of those things women have to deal with sometimes. :(

Doubt I can top some of the ones already written however there were a couple of times in the Army that set shivers down my spine and to this day I still dream about on occasion.

Both involved armored army vehicles and both happened in Korea.

1. There was a company of Marines (national guard or reserve) doing their yearly training in Korea and where in a convoy of armored vehicles (113's) and It was at night so they were using blackout lights.

Apparently a couple of them rolled down a mountain or hill and they air lifted them to the troop medical clinic which was across from our barracks.

They called everyone over who could help and we brought the guys in.

We had one guy that had internal injuries and they hooked up suction to him to drain the blood off his lungs and internal area. It filled a gallon glass jar. The guy was too far gone by that time and died but sometimes I dream of that sucking sound.

2. We were out two weeks with the tank guys while they did weapons qualifications. So finally everyone was on their way back from the field, we were all in a convoy and one of the guys was sitting on top of an armored vehicle instead of at least half in. Someone at the head of the convoy had to make a quick stop, never did find out why.

When this guys vehicle made a sudden stop he flew off the top of the vehicle so hard that he hit the vehicle in front of him before landing on the road.

He had substantial injuries on his left side. I knew for sure his leg, arm and shoulder were broken and we also suspected some of his ribs were broken. Also suspected some brain damage as his pupils were mismatched one being dialated the other not.

We put a C Collar on him, put him on a back board, put pneumatic splints on him and thought we were going to take him in our ambulance but someone had already called an air evac.

So the chopper lands in a rice patty beside the rode and we are all carrying this guy. So we carry the guy while being crouched over due to the chopper blades and also going up and down in the rice patties.

We had to put the arm splint on with his arm out from his body, instead of next to his body, because of his shoulder so I was holding his arm as we moved him.

We get to the helicopter and he will not fit in with his arm out. So I had no other choice but to move his arm up and when I did I heard broken bones in his shoulder making a terrible crackling and grinding noise even above the sound of the helicopter.

Since the guy was out of it he never screamed.

I still dream about that sound from time to time.
