The Cowboys appear determined to turn Pacman's life around--if that's what he finally realizes he must do. Hopefully the Commish believes the Cowboys have the best chance to help get Pacman's life on track & sees that as a positive thing. Believe Jerry will get a call from the Commish just before the decision is announced & hopefully it's at least a sort of go & not a flat out no.

Given how long the Pacman problem has dragged on, I doubt the Commish fully reinstates Pacman now, but for starters he could allow Pacman to visit VR to meet with Calvin Hill & his support group, work out with our trainers so he could begin getting back into football shape & get a copy of the defensive playbook so he can start to learn our defensive system. Of course, the Commish could go 1 step further & agree to let Pacman participate in any remaining OTAs & the June minicamp. If Pacman doesn't get into any further trouble & nothing comes out to prove he ordered any hit in Vegas, the Commish will probably meet with him again & shortly announce in early July that Pacman's suspension is lifted & he can participate in the Cowboys TC & play in the regular season.

I think the recent events about Pacman now having his home foreclosed on and even the minor story about the burglary and also the nearly defaulting on the gambling debts out in Las Vegas due to lack of funds..

..have the effect of taking this all to the point where you are financially ruining a man's life and his financial life at a minimum because you have made decisions that seem to be happening without precident from the league office.

The NFL does not want this to start turning into some tragedy for the person because they have just taken things beyond what it has the jurisdiction to do.

And I think they have at this point, no matter what you think personally of the man or the player.

Our justice system is based on fairness and time served and rehabilitation. Pacman has done all that and is still suffering well beyond just missing some paychecks and some games.

The NFL is not above that person and their rights.

It's time for the parole board to meet and vote and if they vote not to free him, they need to say why and they also should be liable for an appeal to anymore negative decisions that are handed down by the NFL.

This is getting to be way more that just a suspension of a player for visiting too many strip clubs.

It's one thing to discipline a player according to the rules.

But this indefinite extension because of the financial hardship it is causing is going above and beyond the intention of 'helping the player' correct the situation.

And it's not having the intended results of making the league look better by disiplining a player to the point of his ruin.

It's not just about suspensions and penalties now, it's now about defaults on valuable assets that will affect Pacman's financial future with credit reports that damage his ability to lead a normal life in buying property, cars and anything where credit is required..even renting an apt., much less buying a home.

I really don't know how Pacman isn't extremely bitter about what Goodell has done in the name of his new policies.

This whole thing could reverse on the NFL and Goodell if this punishment isn't stopped.

There is a point where you say Pacman brought these things on himself and he deserves what he got, but the extended fallout for the person starts to be precieved as inappropriate and punitive and beyond what is needed and the NFL will start to be looking very much in the wrong to push so hard on a person this way.

After all this is just football.

What the NFL is doing is not only have they taken away the guy's lively hood, but they have impacted his future in ways that I don't think they have any right to have forced to occur.

He's ended his relationship with the Titans, resolved the financial issues with that, and has done everything asked of him.

it is time to settle this for everybody and move on.

I have no idea how he'll play for Dallas after being out of the game for a year and a half or if he'll be able to play anywhere near he did before or if he won't violate the rules and again and be banished.

But at this point, Goodell and the NFL have to let it go and let it play itself out and stop the excessive roughing up of Pacman and put the yellow flags away and let play continue for him.

You raise several good points. However I don't think Goodell gives a rats *** about Pacmans financial well being.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the general feeling about Pacman turned around and people started to feel sympathy for him and hatred for Goodell due to this situation?

Redball, you present a measured view. It appears Goodell is only toying with him now. Either ban him from the NFL, releasing him so he can get a job in Canada, or spring him altogether. This purgatory business is for the birds.

Pacman is paying the price for the errors in the decisions he has made in his life, if he has truly learned then he should be reinstated, if not let him sit. Hes broke because of the way he has lead his life, I dont feel bad for him in that sense.

i doubt he gets reinstated until right before mandatory camps open. why would the NFL let him back early and then risk another PR headache if some hidden story or new event happens? nothing to gain there.

One thing not mentioned about this piece on NFLN, Schefter said the support system in place in Dallas had a big influence on Goodell's decision. He said the Cowboys control everything to do with Pacman's life - what he eats, where he lives, you name it.

Then Schefter mentioned Tank Johnson and his transition from being suspended to now being considered a leader on our team. The Cowboys are likely the best prepared team in the league to handle such players and Goodells knows it.

Exactly. I think Goodell and JJ talk about this and likely did before negotiations got far along. Pacman coming here was probably in large part due to JJ's support programs and his past and current successes. Even JJ's failures were on field or due to the player's medical problems and not due to failure for the program not to work.
