I like this move for two reasons:

1. It gives us a legit threat at punt returner to take it to the house

2. It sends a message to the team that if you SCREW up like Crayton did last week, your job will be on the line. Great message and signing.

But I thought Wade wasn't ding his job? :laugh2:

at one point not long ago, Rossum was regarded as the fastest man in the NFL.
I remember when he beat Andre Johnson (and others) in a race at the Pro Bowl festivities.

This tells me three things:1. Miles will be #2 reciever so they do not want him as pk or kr, 2. Same for Felix(no risk of injury for rest of season), 3. They want to send a messege to this club you don't perform you lose you job Crayton( our new slot only reciever).

Has he fumbled? And his average might relate to SF not having a very good ST unit, which I don't know if they do or not. We have a pretty good ST unit imo.

Not this year, last one 2 years ago. He also has 5 kickoff returns for TD and 3 punt returns for TD. I think it is a good move because it makes the return unit a bit better.

Yep, this is more evidence that Miles is your new starter at WR.

have not read the whole thread....but I am sure some astute fans have pointed out the dominoe effect this will have. Miles should start. Crayton should be moved to the slot. Felix should not be risked to injury on kickoffs. Maybe later in the year when his knee is COMPLETLEY healthy (knock on wood). But Miles needs to save all of his energy for WR! Crayton needs to save what little burst he has as a WR. And I forgot to mention, it will be nice to only need 3 first downs to be in FG range a couple of times a game. It also makes Jason Garrets job easier....too often we get in the redzone and we have ALREADY called 10 plays...it's like, what do I call next? Well we now might be able to get in the redzone in 5 plays. Love it...really love it. And make no mistake about it...Crayton has left a TON of yards on the field this year....a TON!!!!!!!!

BINGO, you hit that right on the money! :clap2:

I just meant him returning...he still needs to find his niche as a receiver in this offense.
Gotcha BybeeBlitz. I misunderstood you. Although I think Ogletree's has potential down the road as a kr/pr.

Allen Rossum is available

The Cowboys' punt returners, Patrick Crayton and Terence Newman, struggled on Sunday. Crayton muffed one punt out of bounds, which technically was a sound play because he saved yards on a punt, and fumbled another. Newman inexplicably let a punt hit the ground and the Cowboys had to start a drive from their 3.

San Francisco cut Allen Rossum to make room for Michael Crabtree, making him available. He is in his 12th year and was averaging 7 yards per punt return and 21.7 yards per kick return. Those numbers are hardly staggering but he has eight returns for scores in his career.

Here's an issue of adding Rossum - he plays only one spot. The Cowboys are already carrying two kickers, a third quarterback and a longsnapper on the roster. Adding another one-position player to the roster is difficult. They appear to be ready to do the 54-man shuffle with running back Chauncey Washington from the practice squad to active roster while Marion Barber and Felix Jones recover fully from injuries.

I don't know what Rossum has left in the tank and I don't know if that is worth a roster spot. But he has a history with special teams coach Joe DeCamillis.

Don't really care for the move.

Newman is a better PR and Felix is a better KR.

Guess neither will have a shot to do it now.

Rossum's old. Really isn't worth the roster spot just to return.

How the hell can the team square-peg Buehler into a round hole by trying everything possible to get him to play some other position and then just blow a roster spot on a guy who isn't better than current players at the one thing he signed for?

I don't get it. Every time Felix touches the ball he could score. No exaggeration either, with the ball in his hands he is a devastating threat to score. With a player like that, you do everything you can to get the ball in his hands.

Rossum seems kinda young at 33. If I remember correctly, I don't trust anyone under 60.

With Hamlin and Rossum on the roster now, Ogletree won't sniff the active roster unless a reciever goes down.

He was a great returner a couple of years ago. Hope he still has something left to offer. Should still be better than Crayton though.
