Schefter: We Just Signed Allen Rossum! Released Cletis

I don't like this signing. Maybe they just trying to make a point to Crayton.

I like it a lot.

It's about time they had a real punt returner who knows what he's doing.

One more shoe left to drop...

Don't like the signing. Who gets cut to make room for this guy?

Hopefully, he will deliver. We'll see. I'm sure if he doesn't produce, he is gone. Jimmy Johnson always got the most out of players by telling them either produce or get fired. So Rossum should be motivated knowing he is on a short leash.

This was him showing great burst and speed less than a year ago:

Allen Rossum agrees to deal

The Cowboys will sign return specialist Allen Rossum tomorrow, bringing the Skyline High grad home, and have cleared a roster spot for him by releasing cornerback Cletis Gordon.

Rossum was cut Monday by San Francisco when the Ninersd activated Dallas native Michael Crabtree.

Rossum played in the first three games of the year but had been inactive for the last two. He averaged 7 yards per punt return and 21.7 yards on kickoffs before being released. Last year Rossum averaged 26.8 yards per kick return and 14.9 yards per punt return, which was second-best in the NFL.

On Sunday at Kansas City, Patrick Crayton fumbled a punt and Terence Newman let one bounce to the Dallas 3. With Felix Jones slowed by a knee injury and Miles Austin's role at wide receiver set to expand, Rossum will also handle kickoffs.

He has eight returns for touchdowns in his career. He spent five years in Atlanta with Joe DeCamillis as his special teams coach.

ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the deal via Twitter.

It kind of sucks that we have to go out to the scrap heap and get a punt returner.

If I remember correctly didnt his season end in Texas Stadium last year when he was injured?

The only problem I have is that now we are going to take 4 specialists to the game, Buehler, Folk, Frenchie, and Rossum.

Pretty important specialists though.

I don't see a problem with this signing, he may thrive under coach D again.

one postive is we can save often injured guys in tnew and felix from return duties..:)

Any good? He has the 2nd most return yards in NFL history with 14,987 yards. 33 years old though.

A-ha! 33 and going on 34. tsk-tsk-tsk.

To me Crayton lost the job when he let a kicker run him out of bounds without even initiating contact. That's a guy who knows he has a job no matter what.

If nothing else Rossum is going to come in with something to prove.

Five if you count McBriar.

Is he still any good? If he's as good as he was 3 years ago I LOVE THIS signing. And I LOVE our special teams. That's the missing piece. A guy who can make teams pay at punt returner.

Seems like an over-reaction to one bad outing to me. Crayton has been solid as a punt returner except for one game.

Preston was my hope for getting rid of Procter as well, so if we cut him, that'll just make me sad.

Rossum is also 33 years old, but he was a pro bowl alternate last year so I guess he's got some juice left. Does he have ANY ability to play corner still?

How is this different from taking Washington or White to games? Neither contributed to anything but ST.
