A lot of people forget that The Triplets had an awesome defense that helped them win 3 super bowls.don't sleep on this Cowboys defense

The main thing the current defense needs to justify this high ranking is generate turnovers better.
Perfectly put. More turnovers leads to less field to go down to score. We need that more this season.A lot of people forget that The Triplets had an awesome defense that helped them win 3 super bowls.

............and not get gashed for 250+ yards in a playoff game. That would help too.
Great point we lack those precious TURNOVERS!!!!!!
And not just turnovers, but pick-6s from your DBs. In the Jason Garret Era, there have been 7 pick 6s from DBs (thank you profootballreference player game finder). Dallas went 6-1 in those games.
In the 92-95, SB years (less than half the time), they had the same 7.
Turnover in general from Jason Garret Era mid2010-2018: 95 interceptions, 87 fumbles - 182 total in 8 1/2 season
Turnovers from 92-95: 81 interceptions (81),
For comparison, I selected the Browns from 2010-2018, and that sorry team had 6 pick-6s from DBs. The Bears have had 21. Even the despicable, dysfunctional Skins have had 7.
Fumbles recovered not tracked by pfr, so no data But the interceptions are 81 in 4 seasons vs. 95 in 8 1/2. Pick-6s from DBs are the same. The DBs on this team need to make more plays and they can be helped by a better pass rush. Until this defense is more than just a get off the field defense (that often surrenders leads in the 4th quarter as they wear down), it won't be a championship defense.

Bill Parcells 2003 defense was number one in points number 2 in yards. (or vice versa) But if we can reach that level of success again we won't miss Zeke that much at all.

The Cowboys defense in the 90s brought blitzes. The guys in coverage played man but they were also playing an area just in case the passes were coming quick due to the blitz.
LOL
No, they're not.
Above average, but not elite.
I think it's easy to see how and where this defense is going to be tested. Even in an article praising them, there is no mention of run defense or the defensive tackles. And based on how they performed in their last game, I think you can rest assured that teams are going to be testing this run defense.
Amazingly, we were 5th in the NFL in run defense last year. But, you can bet every team on our schedule has dissected the Ram game and will try to imitate their success.
