Schottenheimer: Blue has to be more consistent to play in games

I wasn't a fan of the Sanders signing. However, I find it funny that posters are piling on Shotty in him calling out Blue for not being consistent enough to play. Yes, the fumble sucked, but it's a **** happens play. Not like he was showboating or truly being stupid with the ball.

Basically wanting Blue to play cause he's faster and a recent draft pick. Are you the same bashing Jerry for keeping Mazi on the roster, since he's a former 1st round pick?

Sanders is past his prime, and should be riding the bench by end of the year. But it's up to the rooks to prove they deserve playing time. Not given to them cause they are a recent draft pick or can run fast. If a coach is calling this out publicly, it's a sign that the player really needs to improve.

If he's lacking in his responsibilities, or trying to "fit a square in a round hole" when running the ball, what good will it do giving him snaps? Do you want him to misread the pass blocking callout? Do you want him to get playing time if he's being boneheaded like Randle?

Yeah, folks are glossing over the fact Blue apparently doesn’t consistently understand his assignments. But come game time if he misses his blocking assignment, or runs the wrong route, et cetera folks would be changing their tune.

I think the coaching staff knows what type of weapon he is but they clearly can’t trust him. I’ll defer to them.

The problem isn't Blue, the issue is Sanders should have never been signed. Just keep Rico. Or sign Jordan Mason.

This is why they should have made Blue a priority during training camp and preseason, instead of the old veterans. Should have had Blue ready by now.

Maybe they did try, but the results were not there.

I don't know Blue, but I can tell you I have met my fair share of young people who need more seasoning before they take on more responsibility. It nothgin good or bad. It just is what it is.

Remember Blue missed around two weeks of camp with his ankle sprain. Probably needs more time to get up to speed with the offense and with getting actual game reps (only one preseason appearance and that was cut short by spraining his other ankle). I think we will see Blue out there sooner rather than later. Maybe not against the Giants but soon enough.

I just have a problem when it was obvious that it was a bad decision before kickoff then it costs us the game then they come at us with consistency after Sanders misses all pre season and loses the game for us.

I'm not obviously at practice. But in some cases, some guys maybe suck in practice and be great in the games. Others are great at practice then suck in the games. Blue may be a bad practice guy but great when playing. Try him and find out.

Plus, the ball was damp. One reason why Lamb gets a pass. Also why the Eagles ran more, most likely.

Nope. He originally signed a 2 year deal last year with the Ravens for $16 million plus $4 million in incentives with $9 million guaranteed. He ended up with $11 million for the season and they gave him a new contract that makes him $30 million in the next two years.

Translate.......stop relying on your speed and athleticism. Work hard, know your plays and assignments when called. This is stopping just short of calling out Blue's character and work ethic.
It might also explain how/why all that speed couldn't earn more than a handful of carries over 2/3 years in college.

And don't think for a second this is Blue's first time hearing this......my guess is his position coach shared their concerns with him.

Who knows? That same carelessness could be why he had more than a few fumbles in college.

I’d think he hasn’t demonstrated clearly enough in practice the he wouldn’t get the team’s most expensive asset killed.

If it simply came down to take ball, find hole, run with ball he would have seen the field. However, there’s a classroom element to understanding the position and maybe he lagging behind too much for comfort just yet.

Exactly and he’s not gonna put him out there , Game 1 against the defending champions , in Philly…if he’s unprepared. Plenty of season to go. Experience over youth may have been the thinking.
