Schottenheimer: Blue has to be more consistent to play in games

I think jones boys intended to start williams and sanders all along.
thats why they didnt draft one higher or pick one up after cutdown or during offseason.

Blue was never gonna start .
So for 1st 4 games at least, I figure they roll with the 2 starters.
They would have to play badly to get replaced.
 
I don't like Schotty's approach to Blue. Some players play better than they practice. If Blue is one of those guys, then he has no hope of getting in a game.
 
Sounds like one of those RBs who doesn't pick up the blitz. That's not fair, Deuce couldn't either, I mean he tried, and just got runover. :thumbup:

Jerry thinks he can rehabilitate players with poor work habits and he has been wrong just about every time.

Nowhere did he say anything about poor work habits. And I'm reasonably sure you don't give up on rookies 1 game into the season unless they are just completely worthless.

Are you listening to yourself? A 5th round pick being inactive for his first NFL game is a "bright red flag?"
5th-round rookies, if they make the team at all, are rarely ready to play immediately: that's why they lasted until the 5th round.
Just to pluck a couple 5th-round pick examples (there aren't that many because, well, 5th-rounders usually don't amount to anything).
Aaron Jones was inactive in his first game and had zero carries in his next two (I assume he was in on special teams plays). His first carry came after the top two RBs were hurt in the same game.
Tyler Allgeier was inactive in his first game.

Look, Blue probably won't make it. He's a fifth-round pick, they rarely do, no matter how excited fans get about them. So the odds are good that you'll get to take a victory lap. But this idea that a 5th-round pick should be flying right up the depth chart in his first preseason is silly.

Sure, but you're not activating them to ONLY do that. They do some other stuff too, if I remember correctly.
 
Didn't Parcells put Julius Jones on the inactive list a few times? Same silence out of camp about him not being happy with the prep?

I was even one of the guys that thought Kelvin Joseph just needed more time. I pointed out that he was the youngest player selected in the draft that year.

I remember some posters defending RB Joseph Randle, when he was caught shoplifting. He was supposed to replace Demarco Murray, who had just broken the Cowboys record for most yards in a season.

However, the fact that a 5th round draft pick has not "earned" the opportunity to even suit up for the game despite the Cowboys obvious need at that position is a telling sign, a very bright red flag.

Players that turn out to be immature and "need more time" very rarely accomplish much of anything in the NFL.

Cowboys seem to be playing guys who will help Them win on Sundays….i have to respect it.
 
I think fans have an issue when coaches make them look like fools. The resident scouts think Blue is our best back. Maybe he’s not?

He never was gong to beat out anybody. We needed a running back. Could have jumped up and taken one. Instead we draft a corner in the third round who will not even play this year. Bone head pick

Nobody in their right mind thought he would compete to be the starter. If "starting job" includes 3rd-down/receiving back, maybe so.

I believe they was hoping he'd break out. Him being injured during preseason put him behind the 8 ball. I didn't think he would start but I would think he'd be at least active on game day. I think he was also injured after playing in the 1 preseason game he played in. Looking pretty fragile so far in his very short NFL career.

You have a valid point. I suppose I was surprised because I was under the impression that the position was a dire need.

Also, he was being super-hyped by the social media as a "steal".
