By establishing a vertical run game and sticking with it, Schottenheimer has taken the focus off of the passing game. He has forced defenses to back off and guard the line.
This is why statistics lie; high passing yards do not make a winning team, and they certainly do not signify that a quarterback is elite.
A team has to have a balanced attack, with one piece complimenting the others, and vice versa.
The Cowboys offense is moving the ball because defenses no longer merely have to defend Dak Prescott. The run game is gashing them deep, and this creates openings in the secondary as defenses are forced to account for the possibility of run or pass on every down.
The best quarterback isn't the one with the highest passing yards, but the one who can be counted on to make good decisions, with the accuracy and moxy to stand in and make plays when it's his time to step up.
I think Schotty is doing a great job.

How is he doing it right then when his qb has the most passing yards? The attack isn’t balanced. I do think he’s doing a good job I just don’t get your stance of why he’s doing it. To me he’s using the pass to set up the run and it’s working.

I agree. Early returns are trending positive.

Williams has played really well, and has improved the running game overall. We haven’t had a RB this effective in the red zone or getting “dirty yards” since the early days of Zeke

We still have a long way to go, and I hope Blue can add some much needed speed and big play ability, but so far so good.

It is no coincidence Dak is playing his best ball with an effective running game.

Now if only the D could improve a bit, and cut down on the stupid penalties and mistakes, we could actually start to make some noise

all those short routes and 3 yd or so passes pump up the stats for the QB; but they also draw the D in tighter which will help the deep game. The Running attack needs to maintain and also be used more in the red zone

IF the D could improve to the point where its allowing say 25 pts a game that would help

good news is Dak is leading the league in deep balls

As of September 30, 2025, Dak Prescott has recorded 468 total air yards in the 2025 NFL season. He is currently ranked as the #1 quarterback in air yards, leading Joe Flacco and Justin Herbert.

I finally agree with you

Let’s see what happens in the next two weeks. The Cowboys have two winnable road games. Schotty still has a ways to go as a coach but he has been excellent as an offensive coordinator.

No more about the process. If we think we are good enough to grab a win, go get it done. Talk is cheap. Tired of hearing about philosophy jargon. This is a contact sport. Go beat the other team up and win.
