Schottenheimer: Open competition at RT

Guess this pretty much confirms Dallas is getting out from under Terence Steele's contract this offseason, unless he agrees to a pay cut to stick around as the swing tackle.
That, and maybe we should be concerned that Jerry may burn another 1st-round pick on the O-Line. Either way, it's clearly an admission that they are not happy with Steele. He's on notice

Evidently, recent losses have given this Cowboys' staff new ideas as how to handle things. They have suddenly become more proactive in approaching the training and competitive needs. It's a relief for all of us and offers newfound hope for better things to happen on both sides of the ball. Let's see if their boldness in attacking the problems that beset them does anything to resolve things. Opening up the competition at RT has been a long time in coming. Here's hoping it leads to positive results. I love it. Anytime things go awry, the time for change is at hand. It's about time.

Too bad there was never open competition for the head coach position. Instead, we get nepo sperm from the gleam.
This is how you lose people.

One sets of standards for yourself, and another for the rest of us.

This is part of the culture that erodes performance.

Who is gonna face off against Maxx Crosby? That will be a good test.

Smith to LT and try Guyton at RT for the time being just to see if both can play those positions well enough going forward to 2026.

Who is competing? If it's not Cornelius, Adeniji, Thomas and Steel, it is not a real competition.

If Cornelius is not the winner, then I think it will be Steele. I know that's status quo, which is bad, but I don't think Thomas can do it. He was worse than Steele last game. I will not be surprised if Cornelius emerges the winner.

Thomas vs. Cornelius, I'd hope.
Nate Thomas stunk after replacing Terence Steele. Let's hope Cornelius performs much better. If not, guess which position the Cowboys will use one of those two 1st round picks on this next draft?

:banghead:

I thought the new Oline Coach was a lineman whisperer who can make the linemen better?

Steele has to because of his money

Yet another example of big and little thinking they are clever signing an injured player cause they think they are getting him on the “cheap”

I know people are tired of us drafting Offensive Linemen in the 1st rd but if there's a left tackle available, that would be a good pick IMO. Left tackle is one of the 5 most important positions (QB, pass rusher, #1 WR, LT, #1 CB) on the field and Tyler Guyton is ***. Maybe Guyton and Thomas can compete for RT next year.
I would strongly consider a LT and move Guyton back to where he belongs.

Yeah, Thomas really struggled vs the Cards but he's looked good at other times — still has potential. And maaan, I don't even wanna think about using another 1st on a Tackle. Has Cornelius played at all this year? I don't recall.

I thought the D-Line coach was supposed to be the a whisperer too and Uberfluke one guy the LBs.

With the 2nd 1stvround pick in nfl draft the Dallas Cowboys select Tackle of your choice..

Francis Mauigoa, OT, Miami

Mauigoa's brand of bully ball should make him sufficiently attractive for the Cowboys, with his stout protection also coming in handy to counter the NFC's many imposing pass rushers.

I would happily take him at the 10-12 range if still available.
