Schottenheimer OTA press conference notes

Wow, there is competition for starting LT, nice.

I think this says Dallas will keep four tackles, Guyton, Steele, Thomas, and Shelton.

When Shelton was drafted I felt like Dallas was moving on from Thomas. That they view Thomas as a starting caliber LT, I believe this is not an option anymore.
Guyton is a 1st round bust.

He can be cut next March and save $$$

The team needed to draft a LT who could start.

Or sign someone half decent/mediocre. Would've been an upgrade probably.

Yeah, if you don't have one guy, that often means you have no guys.
Not necessarily, it’s becoming more common for good teams to have 3-4 guys who can get 6-8 sacks rather than one 12-14 sack guy.

2025 Seahawks are a great example. 7 sacks tied to lead the team and they were 3rd in the league in sacks and up there in pressures, DLaw actually led them in pressures.

Ideally, you want multiple guys who can consistently beat 1-on-1 blocking. That’s the best way to have a balanced but highly effective Dline.

Now if we have that with our guys is yet to be seen, but the philosophy is nowhere as ludicrous as the old “wide receiver by committee” coupled with the guys they had on the team. Even that strategy wouldn’t have been terrible if they had a bunch of #2 types, not a bunch of 4’s.

Possibly. I believe they think Thomas can be the veteran swing now. Usually, we've been pretty good about bringing one in when we don't think we have the depth for it (Adeniji last year, Edoga the previous couple of years, Jason Peters for a year, Ty Nsekhe and Cam Irving before that).
Them liking Edoga is quite telling.

So on it's surface it sounds great but when you feel the need to throw in "we like what Guyton has done so far" it reads as the same old same old lip service and teh handing of a starting job to the 1st round draft pick no matter how he plays...again...

Yeah, kinda took the air out of that news for me too. But like I told @big dog cowboy, this is Guyton's last chance. He loses this "competition" and he's depth until he's cut or his contract just runs out.

And keep in mind May of 2027 if the deadline for it's 5th year option

Nate Thomas did pretty good, late in the year.

I wont be surprised if he ends up getting the gig.

The alternative would've been drafting an OT at 12 and missing out on Caleb Downs. Passing on arguably the best defender in the draft with so many issues on that side is far from ideal.

They could've taken one with the second pick in the 1st, but it there weren't really any viable options available outside of Lomu...who reportedly struggles in the run game. What would you have done differently?

Usually it's the active-PUP list meaning they will be eligible to practice at anytime without a roster move being made.

Having said that it's better to be careful. Especially with Bland whose foot issues are on the verge of being chronic at this point.
Right. They could be on PUP for a week for conditioning purposes.
As history shows us this.
