Schottenheimer OTA press conference notes

Is he a bust?
He had nagging injuries his first two years. So hard to say.
How about seeing what happens this year.
For me, that was last year.

What’s your confidence level in Guyton being good this year?

I’m leaning toward a one contract failed pick.

They look like they will win division this year. They have a shot. Do you disagree? It's good that they let the coaches pick their assistants and the new dbacks that they have added are a big improvement. It's going to be fun to watch.
I see you are still mind controlled by Jerry

"When Jerry hands me the Lombardi Trophy, I'm going to hand if off to you and then you give it to Klayton."

I am just in a wait to see what happens mode.
His 3rd year. Most coaches rule of thumb.
Landry and Parcels the biggest proponents of that.

Looks like Ceedee Lamb had some words for Christian Parkers new defense

“It's annoying. It's been annoying to prepare against, but obviously just seeing it practice every day...it's kind of unique, just seeing different guys communicate and being able to understand and take what they learn from the meeting room and being able to easily translate it on the field. It's good to go against, it's very tricky.

Nate Thomas was tried at T last season and the reaction was maybe he’s a G . Guys like him and Carson are camp bodies not players you count on Sunday Night Sept against the Giants . Stop bull chitting us .

Has to be a good sign. It's been some time since a Dallas Defense could be described as "tricky"

it is a ota PC , I didnt expect to hear much, but I watched the whole thing on YT .
I mean what can he say at this point?

This is the make-or-break year. We've got to see it or move on. Our offense was one of the top ones in the league despite him being out there last year. It can be even better if he improves, and if he doesn't, we need to look for someone else who can make it better.

Thomas might can progress. His biggest problem is that he doesn't seem to have elite agility. He's a big, powerful guy, so teams figured out that you have to attack him with speed. He's got to rely on technique to put himself in position to negate that speed.

Yes agree. I think some forget how good the offense was. And if he improves. And Steele two full years recovered now. This offense can be extremely hard to stop.

Though teams have had time to dissect it more now.

I don’t see him as an upgrade to Guyton or Steeie .

Some observations from today's #Cowboys OTA session that was open to the media:

(NOTE: During some portions of practice, the media had a restricted view as the team worked red zone on the opposite side of the field, so couldn't see everything)

- LB DeMarvion Overshown was absent from practice as he's getting married this weekend. With Overshown gone, the first-team linebackers included Dee Winters and Shemar James. Justin Barron and Curtis Robinson got second-team reps.

- Lots of redzone work for the offense. During it, saw Dak Prescott throw six touchdowns. Saw five of them, which went to Ryan Flournoy, CeeDee Lamb across the middle, Phil Mafah, another to Lamb and Jake Ferguson. To my knowledge he was not intercepted.

- Joe Milton was the second QB to get reps in practice today. Saw Sam Howell throw a touchdown to Jordan Hudson.

- With Jalen Thompson working with Britt Brown and the rehab group, Malik Hooker and P.J. Locke were the first-team safeties. Markquese Bell, Alijah Clark and Zion Childress got second-team work.

- Rookie Caleb Downs and Cobie Durant both took first-team reps at slot corner. Durant also took outside corner reps and played slot corner with the second-team as well.

- Shavon Revel and Caelan Carson both got first-team reps at outside corner. Saw Derion Kendrick, Devin Moore, Trikweze Bridges and Corey Ballentine get second-team reps.

- With George Pickens not in attendance, the first-team WR rollout most commonly consisted of CeeDee Lamb, Ryan Flournoy and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

- Dak Prescott got some extra work afterwards in with Ryan Flournoy, Jaydon Blue, Jordan Hudson and Romello Brinson.

Based off last year, no. It was his first full year, though, so we'll see if he can develop. He's never going to have ideal speed/agility for either spot.

I kind of think Steele is what he's going to be now. He's going to give up some pressure and sacks and be solid in the run game. He could be better two years removed from the injury, but by the time the latter part of last season rolled around, I think what we saw is what we have.

This has been the most impressive OTA in some time.
More impressive than the one where Jalen Brooks was making all those catches and Eric Scott was covering everybody (except Jalen Brooks)?

New defense already sucking.
