Schottenheimer praising how Guyton has looked in OTAs

What I tend to put a lot into is when coaches get into specifics talking about a player. Generic phrases like "playing at a high level" and "going against great players" is just frequent coach speak in my mind. Zimmer was really good about this last season. You could almost always read into what he really thought about players because he was just a football guy that talked about very specific aspects of a players practice habits, what they were working on in terms of footwork, how guys up front were doing with hand placement, etc. That's the stuff I can start to buy in when I hear it.
Zimmers defense was horrible.

The smart way would've been to get a left tackle last year for your rookie QB but sure let's take advice from MountaineerCowboy on what the "smart way" is.
Most important position on the field is the one the Cowboys struggle with the most.

The Cowboys could have Pat Mahomes and he would say QB is less important than DT.

If Guyton rates as an average LT we will be better than 7-10.
You can yawn at that but that includes new coaching staff,RB room, rookie RG, beat down schedule

Guyton improving and holding down the left tackle position would be huge for the team this season.

I hope he’s gotten stronger this year.
Outside of Dak, Micah, or Lamb getting injured he’s the key to the season. Hopefully Adams and the KSt dude can turn it around for him. He looked dominant at times last season but also looked unmotivated at other times as well.

:laugh:You guys thinking the play of the left tackle will make or break the Cowboys. What all-pro left tackle did the Commanders have last season?
Exactly, our bread and butter is going to be between the tackles. Improvement is expected, but it doesn’t have to be all pro. I saw a picture of him at last week's camp his arms have definition, i didn't notice that last year.

When you play a position you are not familiar with you end up thinking too much and can not rely as much on your natural talent.

He was a bigger project last year than many claim. No way it suddenly clicks for him this year. I still think they'll rearrange the line up due to Guyton being so bad.

It was hard to believe they left him out there for so long last year.
Guyton better get it together Asim Richards is right behind him and might take the Left Tackle position and the draft pick from Oregon Ajani Cornelius supposedly has some road grading qualities in his game and is a contender as well, for a Tackle spot.

Not going to happen.

Guyton. as long as he cleans up his mental errors can be an average tackle. Give me a great interior of the offensive line with two average tackles. You will have a top 10 offensive line in football.

I find this time of year amusing. Everyone is great in OTAs. All the rookies are shining and the 2nd year players are looking to take a big leap. Add in that veterans are looking to break out and you have 99% of OTA reporting.

He was a very inexperienced player. What you saw was frustration where guys get in a funk and stop using technique.
