Schottenheimer praising how Guyton has looked in OTAs

Laremy Tunsil led the league with 19 penalties.
In the 2024 season, Tyler Guyton, a rookie offensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys, was called for 14 penalties, which were accepted. These penalties were tied for the second-most in the NFL that season. He was also called for a team-leading 18 penalties overall.

Guyton's 14 accepted penalties against him as a rookie in 2024 were tied for the second-most in the NFL last season, just three away from being tied with new Washington Commanders offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil for the most in the NFL.

I just don't see left tackle material.....tiny shoulders....fat gut. Questionable feet....Questionable mentally. The fact he got beat repeatedly last year on the inside move....and never adjusted....really makes me wonder if he will ever be more than just a backup.

A story about a former 1st round pick at OTAs "looking much improved"

Shocking.
Why is that so shocking? It is exactly what we expected. We knew he needed work when he was drafted. He got playing time for some experience, got in the weight room to get stronger and now is getting better coaching.

HUH?????? That picture is from last year. Look at his picture from this year. You know, after hitting the weights every day and working with good coaches. A backup??? LOL!!!

You don't think he would improve from rookie season to year 2?

There's an article on dallascowboys.com about him having reshaped his body.

"I think that I figured out a lot about what I need to do to take care of my body, to be able to play at a high level," he said from OTAs. "Also, following the guys that have came before me and understanding that the routine is very important. I feel like I learned a lot."

"I think some of the new things that come from Klayton and Conor Riley really fit him," Schottenheimer explained. "He hasn't played offensive line a whole lot. Then he played right tackle for Oklahoma. Then he played left tackle [for the Cowboys], and it's obviously a premier position, and he missed quite a lot of time in training camp.

He was a bigger project last year than many claim. No way it suddenly clicks for him this year. I still think they'll rearrange the line up due to Guyton being so bad.

It was hard to believe they left him out there for so long last year.
Why no way?

Someone have a quote of something Schotty has said negative about any player? Something neutral? How about someone just not glowing? He’s definitely got some McCarthy in him from that respect. I think we need to ignore all of these compliments unless they are the unsolicited type

I hope he can take a significant leap, but when is the last time we've heard a coach say a player has looked bad at OTAs? Even last year he was severely overhyped between OTAs, camp, and preseason work only to end up one of the worst Tackles in the league come time for the real games.
Parcells...

He does not need to state the obvious. He was put into a position he was not ready for, because we had a glaring hole, that was not properly bridged through FA.

Every scouting report said he had the ideal size with a high ceiling, nowhere did it say or anyone think he would be a high performing LT day 1.

He will progress this year, and most likely more again next year. If he can't figure it and have significant improvement on the left side, he will most likely be moved back to RT to replace Steele, and we will be looking for a new LT in the draft.

Before everyone freaks out about spending another 1st round pick on the OLine, you darn well know, GM Jethro is not going to spend the money on a legit LT in FA.
