Schottenheimer starts off OTA with some paintball

Want to say another Cowboys coach did this to begin the season too, but can’t remember which one. Sounds like a Garrett outing. LOL

OK, this is getting ridiculous.

So, this is his schtick now? Gimmicks?

Any player with a brain sees through this.
It’s not about trying to trick the players. They are grown men. We know in 2025 you can’t yell at these guys until they hear you. So how do you develop a relationship with the guys and make them fight for you and each other? I don’t have the answer but I at least can appreciate the effort of doing something different because we know the McCarthy didn’t work.

McCarthy tried this too with the whole Gallagher watermelon smash thing.

Yeah but who the hell is Gallagher? I’m in my mid 30s and I never heard of him…prime example of how out of touch Mike was lol.

I know who he is now but as a kid I thought this was him lol:

It’s hard to take some posters seriously when they get outraged about everything, even things that have proven to be beneficial.

The Harvard Business review wrote about Tom Brady’s “Art of Leading Teammates” where Brady discussed the importance of team building. Brady said:

Strengthening relationships & team bonds
  1. The best teams connect outside of work. Shared experiences—whether at offsites, retreats or casual gatherings—build trust and chemistry.

Damn I like this side of you lol, I've said it before, all this culture stuff sounds good but what we need is the mental toughness to fight when times are hard in games, stopping the run, blocking etc. Team fun isn't going to help that, my bad Terrence Parsons seems to think it will lol
You obviously are ignorant of what leadership is all about. You’re making yourself look silly.

There's another Hard Knocks HBO special with the whole NFC East in December.

Maybe he can do an Austin Powers comedy routine attempt like the last guy.

The team really loved that-sarcasm extreme.

LOL

Good, we will get to see reactions of all the teams fans. Especially on here.
When Dallas clinches the NFCE title.
Some on here won't like it. :muttley:

While I think Schottenheimer is a lazy hire by Jerry this kind of activity is very important. It’s not about paintball. It’s about seeing how people interact with one another outside of work. The coaching staff can’t follow these guys home or otherwise invade their private lives.

If you have to manage people it is very important to see as many aspects of their personality and mannerisms as possible. It can allow a manager to consider alternate ways to approach, motivate, an individual. This activity has value to the coaching staff. It is a smart move.

Can’t imagine Jimmy ever doing this.

Asthma field be damned
Jimmy cleared out the middle of the locker room and set up comfy chairs and dominos tables.

He also rejected Landry’s pattern of allowing players to choose their own lockers and forced units to have lockers together.

Full disclosure, this is AI.

3. Fostering Leadership Through Shared Experiences

Johnson understood that leadership emerged from shared experiences. By organizing team dinners and outings, he created environments where players could connect on a personal level, leading to stronger leadership within the team. These activities helped players develop a sense of camaraderie and accountability, essential components of a successful team.

In summary, Jimmy Johnson's emphasis on team-building activities outside of practice was integral to his coaching philosophy. By investing in his players' personal development, fostering trust and respect, and creating opportunities for shared experiences, he built cohesive teams capable of achieving great success.

Should be very interesting/entertaining for sure.
Especially if they are not in first place at the time.

Thing is, very few people are like Jimmy. The correct ability of psychology without being a psychopath that players turn off. And that was a different era. Different training abilities by teams, and if Schott went from one personality to trying to impersonate being a Jimmy or Parcells type of coach, players would see it as a facade and not respect him.

This is one day of OTAs. Not like they are spending Training camp doing paintball. Either it worked, players had fun, or it didn't work and players moved on lol.
