It’s not about trying to trick the players. They are grown men. We know in 2025 you can’t yell at these guys until they hear you. While I think Schottenheimer is a lazy hire by Jerry this kind of activity is very important. It’s not about paintball. It’s about seeing how people interact with one another outside of work. The coaching staff can’t follow these guys home or otherwise invade their private lives.

If you have to manage people it is very important to see as many aspects of their personality and mannerisms as possible. It can allow a manager to consider alternate ways to approach, motivate, an individual. This activity has value to the coaching staff. It is a smart move.

Thing is, very few people are like Jimmy. The correct ability of psychology without being a psychopath that players turn off. And that was a different era. Different training abilities by teams, and if Schott went from one personality to trying to impersonate being a Jimmy or Parcells type of coach, players would see it as a facade and not respect him.

This is one day of OTAs. Not like they are spending Training camp doing paintball. Either it worked, players had fun, or it didn't work and players moved on lol.
