Schottenheimer starts off OTA with some paintball

It is concerning that this Dollar Store coach wants to be loved and popular.
My concerns as well. I'm beginning to wonder whether the team wants to be a competitive football team or just a bunch of bro's looking forward to the parties and hanging out.

Back in 2007 we used to call Wade's team camp cupcake. We need to come up with something to call whatever this is that Schotty is trying to accomplish. It certainly isn't s physical football team.

Yeah, but huge corporations pay absurd amounts of money doing this kind of thing…so apparently it has some value. I think it can be used effectively to see how people react…give you better insight into who your dogs are, who might be able to devise winning strategy, and who is just along for the ride. You might be able to see who works better as a team or partners. I do think it is a better team builder than going to Sea World.

The other thing is these OTAs are so limited as far as physicality goes, I doubt a day of paintball is going to set the team back.
Exactly......100% confident Schotty had a strategy

“What do voluntary mean”.

Training camp hasn’t started yet and physical football isn’t allowed during OTA’s.

I highly doubt that a coach like Jimmy would be out there playing paintball and being one of the guys, regardless whether it was OTA's or not.

100%…almost every company of any significance has regular team building events.

In the last 6 months, we have held events at COSM, volunteered at a food bank, built bicycles for kids at Christmas, had a suite at a Stars game, and held an event at Chicken N Pickle.

This is nothing new and any leader worth their salt would agree that team building is an important component of leadership and team unity.

People just want to be outraged for the sake of being outraged. The Cowboys provide plenty of opportunities for outrage but this isn’t one of them.
It sounds like your company doesn’t give a damn about making money or accomplishing their core performance objectives…

Unless those objectives are establishing a paid “fun time party zone” experience.

Or, it could be that it’s no longer 1972 and your organization is doing everything they can to be competitive in an ultra competitive marketplace.

I, for one, don’t buy for a second that other teams don’t do this stuff.

It’s been proven, repeatedly, that Jimmy engaged in “team building”, but every day we see these old fossils talking about how Jimmy was basically horseback, executing poor performers in public hangings.

Other teams do…I posted examples of the Eagles, Giants, Saints, Jax, and Miami doing paintball and escape rooms. The Eagles did it during the season. And it took all of 2 minutes to Google.

It really is enlightening to see which posters are traumatized by this non-news.

Traumatized? That's a stretch. If the coach wants to be one of the guys rather than a leader focused on a task at hand that's his business. It's not my style, but whatever.

Players didn’t have the energy. They were too tired from the White House.

I can’t wait for the thematic t-shirt this year. What should it say?
  • “30 years…it’s time”
  • “Fight! This time we mean it”
  • “Mojo Paintball Team”
  • “We Dem Hawt Boyzzzzzzzzzzzzz”
  • “#1 in Revenue”
Our motto will look nice on a shirt....

GO COWBOYS!!

Creating a cohesive team is part of being a leader. Every coach (including the beloved Jimmy) talks about the importance of team building through outside activities. Tom Brady wrote an article in the Harvard Review discussing the importance of team building among other things.

I mean, this is a cheap gimmick attempting to build culture. It's play stuff. Not serious. Slacker mentality, like McCarthy smashing watermelons.

How does this impact their GameDay performances. This is truly stupid. They can all do this in the Dak yard, or whatever else
Calm down, brother. Patience is a virtue.

As discussed previously, a large number of our regulars are not only out of touch with the 21st century, but also the current NFL.

Dude. Send them to the asthma field. Cut them. Talk trash about them.

Unless they are a star. Then, do what Tex/Tom/Jimmy did and turn a blind eye and pay a “fixer” to handle the messy details.

Honestly, the current Cowboys are held to a much higher level of accountability than either of our championship eras.

Why? Back then, social media didn’t exist and the media was controlled by owners.

The idea that a message board was even a thing was a foreign concept. And, even if it did exist, the idea that any opinions wouldn’t be fully curated, controlled and disseminated, is a fantasy.

Which, essentially, calls into question everyone’s “recollection” of what happened even 30 years ago.

“Traumatized”

How about “triggered”

Or, in a bottom line “called on their BS”.

There are regulars who straight up will hate on *anything* the team does.

You know it

I know it

The Zone knows it

It’s just that being “triggered” is more acceptable to the culture of the Zone than being a fan could ever be.

Just own it dude

Maybe not the first day.or 2.

Have you gone to company Christmas paroles? Or Christmas Day for the family and kids. I wotprked for places that had them, gave presents to the kids.

Company family picnics or gatherings.

A company I worked for gave each group money twice a year for a group gathering. How they spent it was up to them. They could all go out to a lunch or dinner. Invite the families if they wanted. Or have a group cookout and invite the families if they wanted.
They voted on what to do each time.

Why so down on fans that like this idea?
I think everyone has gone to Christmas parties.

I don't see any holiday lights or snow on the ground right now though.

Your rationalizing this. Inside...maybe DEEP inside...you know this is just in the first few days of OTA and they're playing PAINTBALL instead of practicing, using VERY VERY limited time on a KIDS game instead of trying to hone their craft. If the freakin' Eagles were doing this, I MIGHT be able to say "well, I guess they've earned it...but still not wise"

But Philly isn't doing this. They're using every precious moment to get better at football, not paintball/dodgeball/kickball/goofball.

But dallas is skipping practice in just Day2? !!! DALLAS!?!?!?! you know that's the LAST team that should be doing this. Dallas....underperformed, immature, podcasting, choking, mistake prone DALLAS? come on....you know this is dumb. It's like telling a high school kid who's failing every class he's in because he's too lazy to study and just wants to goof off "hey son, feel free to skip school today and just stay home and play Xbox all day". This is just coach Shorty trying to cater to his spoiled players in an attempt to get them to like him.

I sat back and just read some of the comments.....just helped to solidify my thoughts about this group. Some of you don't know anything about football, except for being able to log on and turn on a TV.....damn, I kinda envy that....ignorance is bliss, but it can me very annoying and comical at the same time.

JERRY SUCKS, DAK SUCKS, MICAH SUCKS, SCHOTTENHEIMER SUCKS, GARRETT SUCKS!!! NEXT YEAR'S DRAFT PICKS WILL SUCK!

Cowboys Pro Bowl LG Tyler Smith said new head coach Brian Schottenheimer took the team to play paintball on the first day of optional team activities. “I thought that was a crazy thing. That’s never happened before. I thought that was really cool to start things off on a fun note. … The guys were going crazy. It was fun.”

Who was the best?

“Markquese Bell. Oh my God. Oh my God. Markquese Bell could probably go to SEAL Team 6. I’m not gonna lie, the way he be paintballing, Bell, for sure.”

So just for a friend who asked:

Did they play ping pong before or after the paintball session?
