Schottenheimer - We're building a team. We're not just collecting talent.

9 teams let him coach.

They dumped him or demoted him.

If you can tell me one other coach that went through a path like that and was successful then I'll give him a chance.
No other coach came from the college ranks and built a team the way Jimmy Johnson did until he did it.

Bill Belichick was fired by the Browns. Pete Carroll was fired by the Jets AND Patriots. Andy Reid was fired by the Eagles.

Brian Schottenheimer was never a head coach before because even he recognized he was not ready. At age 51 he is not that old as far as NFL head coaches go. He's paid his dues and learned a lot. Let's at least give him a chance months before he even coaches his first game.

Cool.

Now if you can tell me another coach that went through 9 other teams, basically a quarter of the league, and became a successful HC I will give him a chance.

I don't care about other coaches that got fired as HC's and went on to be great HCs. Schottenheimer has been fired or demoted by basically a quarter of the league and Dallas, where you fail up, is the only place that thinks he's HC material. When last year they didn't even think enough of him to make him a real OC. They gave him the fake title while McCarthy ran the offense.

You can't do it because it's not happened. I don't need to give him a chance. The burden of proof is on him and the Cowboys to prove that he's not a loser. It's not on me to believe in him just because Lord Jerry tells us too.

He told us what he was going to do and, so far, that’s what he’s doing.

The team may well be middle of the pack again next year but it’s nice to see that there at least appears to be a plan and a thought out coaching approach.
Jason Garrett always had a coherent plan.

We'll know what he's about when a player makes a dumb mistake during the game like a personal foul. If he stats quiet like Garrett did he's the same puppet as him.

We are building a team, but so is the rest of the division. Washington had a good draft, Giants I'm just not sure. Eagles, take notice spent most of their draft on defense.. It's not going to be easy.

What's your point?
Every off season, we see 5-7 head coaches fired. I'm sure those teams thought they had the right guy. As stated before, there's no evidence to prove Schotty will be any less successful than any other first-time rookie head coaches. For example, nothing special stood out about Andy Reid, John Harbaugh, Dan Campbell or Mike Tomlin but they have enjoyed outstanding success.

Honestly, I had my reservation about Schotty initially but after listening to some of his former head coaches ( including Pete Carroll, who fired him ) and the fact he spent his entire life around the game with Mardy, convinced me. It's early he won me over
****turned down two previous HC interviews/offers coz he didn't think he was ready.
****hired a number of outside assistnace coaches, NOT stacking his staff with former coaches he's worked with or friends ( see Kellen Moore ).
****this may seem small it appears he has excellent communication skills. It what separates Harbaugh, Campbell and Tomlin....ability to manage people on all levels, especially under pressure.
Don’t give this yahoo the time of day. He’s a troll who does nothing here but spew hate. Put him on ignore and you’ll thank me.

I really dislike the nickname Schotty.

It just seems so disrespectful for a head coach.

I don't need to give him a chance. ....that is true, but some of us want to.

The burden of proof is on him ............yes it is , he cant prove anything till we are at end of the season, and we will see how it went.

and the Cowboys to prove that he's not a loser.........who are the "Cowboys" ? The Jones boys? They cant prove anything lol.

It's not on me to believe in him just because Lord Jerry tells us too..............True, but Jerry and his son havent told anyone to believe in shotty or that he will be great coach etc.. At least half the people here dont listen to Jerry or believe what he says. I form my own opinion too, and it is based on what I read see and hear. I like shotty so far , way better than the previous HC's, now will he build a team that does better on the field, and in the playoffs ?? I dont know, but I think there is a chance he will. Have to wait and see how it all works out in his first season, the reevaluate .

Garrett said and did the same in his first season.

He and every other coach since Jimmy Johnson learned that, no they are not building a team. That is not going to be their team.

In this franchise the Head Coach is a hired hand. It is his job to coach and teach. He may sometimes advise the person who is building the team but there is no doubt whose team it is, especially if they find success.

At least the Cowboys coaches have former NFL Head Coach and GM Dan Reeves to thank for not having to punch in a timeclock.

Jerry Jones doesn't care about Brian Schottenheimer's strategy, philosophy, or plans to succeed. Jerry Jones is not going to make decisions based on any coach's quaint ideas.

To Jerry, the concept of a "bad fit" has nothing to do with the skill sets or attitudes of a player, it is the result of poor coaching.

Jason Garrett talked about "the right kind of player." In his first few seasons the O-linemen were all straight-A students who made intelligent decisions and played for the love of the game. The players were all "high character".

Jerry had a past of signing guys like TO, Pacman Jones, Dez Bryant, and Kevin Hardy.

One of Tom Landry's most famous quotes is "Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan."

Therein lies the true nature of this franchise's failures over the past three decades. There is no plan and even if there was, Jerry Jones is the last person to adhere to it.

Yup
Like a friend trying to set you up on a double date with his dates not so hot friend
You- what does she look like
Your friend - she’s awesome - she’s really cool - she’s funny - she’s so sweet

You - ummm ???
Hey, well................................................crapp, can't say that!!!

Oh he’s been that way since he joined this site. That’s not surprising at all. I’m sure his exchange with you is part of the reason he split as I’m confident you’re not the only he’s done it to. I’m pretty sure he’s made some horrible accusations publicly and the way he comes off as a superior fan and polices everyone else on how to fan or the whole “h8ter” BS he’s done for years is tiresome. He should’ve stayed gone, but I assume he’s probably put all of us who call his nonsense out on ignore now. I find amusing that others have come to “white knight” for him. He needs help.
Not many left.
