I've talked up Schottenheimer since he was first brought in as a consultant. I'm a big fan of his, and think he is a great coach, but the issue isnt Schottenheimer, its why he was hired. He was brought in to keep continuity. He was brought in because the Jones's are familiar and comfortable with him. He was brought in because he knows where the lines are and where Jerry/Stephen like to be involved and is OK with that.
I get that people want to be optimistic here, and maybe in the end I'll look like a fool for ever doubting this hire, but I struggle to see any reason why things would change with this hire. He was brought in to keep the offense mostly the same. He was brought in because Jerry/Stephen are comfortable with him. Coaches have talked about the culture here for decades, but I'm not sure any of that has really improved with the exception of the Parcells years. Not to knock Eberflus, but once again we have a DC that has former Cowboy ties, and while I'm sure Schottenheimer had a say it most likely was primarily a Jerry/Stephen choice.
