Schultz to command top TE money

If he signs do we get a third or fourth round comp pick?

I'd love to know that too! I've read a million things on comp picks and still don't get it.

I'm guessing no 3rd as that kind of pick needs a Byron Jones type contract. I think we got a 4th for Robert Quinn as probably the closest comp to what Schultz may get?

Someone can correct this if it's rubbish

Is that a nod you think they are keeping his price down?
I don't believe teams think about players like that.

With 3-4 good receivers on the team, it's possible that he is being used more in the blocking and short game areas, but it is also possible that maybe he has been dealing with an injury.

Either way, he looks slower to me at least this year compared to last.

He currently ranks 8th is receiving yards by a TE with 584 and is only 59 yards behind the #5 ranked TE, which would place him behind only Andrews, Kelce, Pitts, and Kittle......so depending on how he finishes do not be surprised if a team offers him Top 5 money and he bolts the Cowboys.

Another thing he has going for him.. There isn’t very many good TE’s in the league.

It’s also not a position that contributes right away either.

Dallas needs to find a way to keep him but money will be an issue.

The only player they will financially move mountains for will be Randy Gregory.

On this we agree. 100 percent. One huge difference between him and those guys is his ability to block.

Well, that should net the Cowboys a 3rd round comp pick then. I doubt the Cowboys are going to sign any high priced FAs.
3rd round comp sounds good, I personally don’t care how much money any player signs for when leaving here. The more they make the better for us. I also think CW will net us a nice comp pick

He’s a decent in-line blocker and horrible in space.

Schultz is just ok as a blocker if that.

I think the only reason Schultz made it in this league is because he did a great job figuring out how to be like Witten.

Yeah exactly. It’s his blocks in space that hurt the team the most though. That’s one thing Geoff Swaim and Blake Bell were great at.

Fair enough......it's always something I have in the back of my mind.......maybe I'm just looking for the "bad" that way!

The reason I ask is because I felt Gregory was held out longer potentially to keep his numbers down for his contract offer. Obviously ZERO evidence, just a thought in my head but wanted to share it.

I'm thinking about this more, you maybe have a point.

There's also the "copy New England" approach and the 2 TE signings this year have made a difference which other teams will take a serous look at.

Yeah, there’s no way I’m paying him like a Top 5 tight end.

I agree that I think he’s a benefactor of our receiving corp and scheme. I also think he makes a lot of boneheaded mistakes and is inconsistent as a blocker.

That said, I wouldn’t mind him back but it’s hot to be in the $7-9M per year realm.
Agree and he was suppose to be a good blocker coming out of college.

Every year we are shocked by the contracts some Cowboys free agents are offered and we will be again in 2022. The better the Cowboys do on the field, the more their players are hyped and the higher their contract offers will go.

Is he really that much better than a healthy Jarwin? Feel like they’re the same thing
Jarwin is the lanky deep threat. Schultz is the ultra quick chain mover and outlet when the QB's in trouble. How exactly do you see them as the same? They are polar opposites.

He’d be nice to retain for a favorable contract but with more pressing needs to address the defense through Free Agency, they might have to let him walk......the 30% of the teams salary cap being paid to 2 players comes with consequences

That’s just Schultz’s agent speaking through that “journalist” and trying to manipulate the market for his client. I’m sorry, but Dalton Schultz is not a top tier tight end. He was solid early in the year because the offense he was playing in was beyond elite. I’d be surprised if he gets more than $6 million/yr on the open market
