Schultz to Texans for 1 year 9 million

He was a great security blanket for Dak. His blocking was an issue, but he was a good receiving TE. We better hope these younger players can move the chains because it’s hard to have a potent offense without a solid pass receiving TE.

Ferguson will be a better blocker, though. So if we want to run the ball more, that's a good thing. Of course, when we go two tight ends, I don't know if Hendershot is any better at blocking than Schultz. TE is a concern for me until these guys prove themselves. Even if we add another younger guy, he's going to have to prove himself too.

I will say I'd much rather sign Schultz to that deal than spend a first-round pick on a TE. So I'm hoping Dallas doesn't do that. I guess if you can guarantee me a Kelce or Kittle, I'd climb on board.

I say that just because it’s not a huge contract and Houston isn’t exactly a high powered offense and size of deal + stats are basically how those picks are formulated.

Who knows maybe it’s a large enough deal and Schultz becomes a top target there. I’d feel better about our odds of a 3rd/4th round comp pick had he gone to a team like Cincinnati on a 3/35 type deal.

Stats and playing time only involved as incentives to increase the value of the contract.
if it is $9 mil without or before incentives. Then it should bring a comp pick.
From last year, Gregory $14 mil, and Williams $7 mil got us the 5th round picks for this year. Wilson $7.3 got is the 6th.
Gregory missed a lot of playing time or else his should have got us a3rd or 4th.

So just a wild guess, Schultz $9 mil may be in the range of a 4th, depending what other FA values are at.

I like Shultz and he was missed when he got hurt. The poor San Fran game sealed his fate. We had many years before Witten got here and after Novacek left that we couldn’t find anyone remotely as good as Shultz. Would have liked to have kept him.

The Houston Texans official website, as of 2:57 today does not show anything about Schultz. They do show Cooks being traded to the Cowboys.

The "reports" are usually true, just may not have been released by the team due to the player taking physicals, etc.

But as of 2:57 today, there is nothing confirmed about Schutz.

All I'm saying is until I read or hear of the official announcement, I'm not saying he's now a Texan.

Unless it's a unicorn at TE, I'd prefer to not put that big of an investment into the position. I guess I've been spoiled, though, by Dallas not having to spend first-rounders on that position to find players like Novacek, Witten and even to some extent, Schultz. And the last time we spend a first-round pick on TE, it didn't turn out so well (or second-rounders, either).

We ran the ball a lot last season, the most since the 94 season but we just need to run it better. The Cowboys aren’t going to get very far just banging the ball on the ground all day. You win games with the passing game and a great pass receiving TE is a big part of the formula. The fact the Cowboys offered Schultz a contract tells me we’re not done at TE yet.
