We need to score first Sunday vs the dolphins. Why? It’s very simple.
  • The Cowboys are 9-0 in games this year when they score first.
  • The Cowboys are 1-4 in games they do not score first.
  • The only time the Cowboys have won this year when not scoring first was in the Chargers game back in October; a game we won 20-17 on the road.
For this reason if the Cowboys win the toss Sunday, I hope they take the ball and drive down the field for some points. Or if Mia wins the toss I hope they defer to the second half. IMO this game is going to require a minimum of 30 points to win against a dolphins team that averages 36 points at home.

Scoring first on the road. It’s step one in winning.
Significant - and pertinent - statistic to know...thanks for posting
Bobhaze- in those 9 games Dallas scored first- do you have'the info on what the opponents did to reciprocate---
a) tied the game with a TD or FG?
b) took the lead with a score(s) at some point later in the game - and the Cowboys responded in the end for the victory?
c) never overcame the Cowboys' lead from the start = Dallas led wire-to-wire for the win?

Today's offensive tackles today, a lot of them have longer arms as well as many are also short yardage as quick. If they get their hands on you, which most do, then there goes the four seconds. Ask Parsons how many times he is actually held until the ball is thrown.
It's different with Parsons because a large amount of the time, he's held in a way that should be a flag but other teams keep getting away with it. They're not actually beating him without cheating.

Either way our defense needs to put on their big boy pants and step up ! We have a chance at home field where we have a good chance to make it to the NFC championship game (even though thats likely on the road)For us the playoffs have kinda started.

The whole rush has to be strongly effective for Parsons not to be non-stop held. Four better get the job done or enough stunts and blitzes to derail both passing and run plays...and a dominant outside control. Whether or not Parsons is doubled or not. If using a light linebacker, he sure as blazes better be filling in and not catching up with a runner.

Didn't Seattle score first with the DK Metcalf TD? Maybe I'm wrong. I tuned in late for that game.

Edit: I stand corrected. Dallas scored first via FG.

According to the statistical web site “Five Thirty Eight”, since 2000, NFL teams who score first win approximately 65% of the time.
Are they winning because they scored first or because they're just the better team, though?

It'd be interesting to see the W/L records going into the games where the score first team won 65% of the time.

Make sure to get right on that Bob, and Merry Christmas. :muttley:
