It is kinda slow now, so I thought I would related an anecdote.

I got to talking about football with a contractor building a shop for me. He told me he had a nephew that played a little football for the Cowboys for a while, then wound up in New Orleans. I asked the name of his nephew and he told me it was Scott Shanely.

He related the conversation that Shanley had with Parcells when he left for New Orleans. Parcells apparently hated to see him go, and thought that he was a great player as well as a great person, but felt it was best for Scott if he went to New Orleans where he would get a chance to play. If he stayed in Dallas, he would be fighting for playing time for the next few years. Of course, Shanley went on the have a great year and a healthy contract.

I kinda wish that Parcells had had this conversation with James and not Shanely.

BTW, Shanely's brother, a safety, has apprarently signed with the Bears.

Shanle was decent at best. He had lots of tackles, but if I remember correctly, Adam had posted a stat showing that most of his tackle came after something like a 5 yard gain.

He is just OK. He is the weakest of our starting LBs now. Fujita on the other hand has been a stud for us.

I liked Fuji also but he just didn't fit in to our scheme. As for Shanle at best he would have been third string. I'm glad he's getting a chance to play.

On one hand I thank BP for building this team; on the other hand you don't fix something if it is broken ala our 4-3 defense; yes Coakley and others were getting old but obviously we see how well fujita is playing... Parcells is great at building a team his way and none other. Shanle was okay; I think he was weak...and so was Fujita IMO but he is good in coverage and a smart player.

I like the 4-3 defense more honestly, but with all the weapons we have at LB I don't care as much anymore.

I really liked Shanle too. I hated to see him go, but I still root for him in New Orleans. I hope he has a nice long career. I really liked Fujita also, but like somebody's already said he didn't really fit with what we were doing so I understand why we parted ways, I still hate the fact that we spent draft picks on a guy and he's gone before we're done paying for him though.

The 3-4 can be DOMINATING if you have good linebackers, its all about having good linebackers. Way back when, when the saints had one of the best defenses in the league (yeah I know its hard to believe but we did) it was when we had 4 good linebackers and just let them run in the 3-4. All four of them actually started in the pro bowl together in the same year, so yeah, with the LB talent you guys have the 3-4 could be a lot of fun to watch

Decent player. The missed tackle on Brunnell on 3rd and 25 vs Washington 2 years ago cost us that game...

Tony Romo dropped the hold on a field goal that cost us the game. Guess we would be better off rid of him.

That was why I didn't much like the 3-4 was because I knew we didn't have the proper personnell to run it. We are close to getting there IF our lineman play better.

I think that the NO's defense did pretty well considering your lack of talent at some positions, and I thought it was interesting the way you had your linebackers quicker guys who may not be the strongest but can cover.

I still maintain that Witten really did have that first down and the ref made a stupid call on the replay. I don't think Witten failed us.

And the 4-3 can be dominating with dood DL. Everything depends on Personel, but it does seem harder to find a dominating DT, rxcept for the 01 draft.

Fujita is the player I most hated to see us let go--what was we thinking?
