Shanle was decent at best. He had lots of tackles, but if I remember correctly, Adam had posted a stat showing that most of his tackle came after something like a 5 yard gain.

Part of that is he was a good coverage LB. He had a much better chance to actually tackle players who made it past the line of scrimmage than say Fowler or James.

I think that the NO's defense did pretty well considering your lack of talent at some positions, and I thought it was interesting the way you had your linebackers quicker guys who may not be the strongest but can cover.

thay overachieved but they were stilll pretty terrible IMO. If we could have had half the offense we have now back when our linebackers were rickey jackson, sam mills, pat swilling, and vaughn johnson we may have won a superbowl.


Im hoping the upgrades we made on defense help out, DT is by far our weakest position now. We brought in a MLB and a corner, but no help on the line at all, and we had one of the worst rushing defenses in the league last year

I still maintain that Witten really did have that first down and the ref made a stupid call on the replay. I don't think Witten failed us.

I remember Darren Hambrick having like 164 tackles one year for us and he wasn't really worth much...He couldn't even start for Cleveland. Sometimes tackle compilers can be misleading...However I do believe that Scott Shanle is a better player than Hambrick...I think with certain players you have to keep players in their element. In NO they didn't make Shanle play above his head. That's why he was succesful...

That was why I didn't much like the 3-4 was because I knew we didn't have the proper personnell to run it. We are close to getting there IF our lineman play better.

On one hand I thank BP for building this team; on the other hand you don't fix something if it is broken ala our 4-3 defense; yes Coakley and others were getting old but obviously we see how well fujita is playing... Parcells is great at building a team his way and none other. Shanle was okay; I think he was weak...and so was Fujita IMO but he is good in coverage and a smart player.


I like the 4-3 defense more honestly, but with all the weapons we have at LB I don't care as much anymore.

And the 4-3 can be dominating with dood DL. Everything depends on Personel, but it does seem harder to find a dominating DT, rxcept for the 01 draft.

You are right. It's not schemes that make plays. Players make plays. Schemes are important in putting the right personnel in the right place at the right time.
