Scott Weiland Has Passed Away

I have no idea if he was still struggling with substance abuse, but even if he was clean now, you don't live an entire life like he did and not have some serious permanent damage. It wouldn't surprise me that this is just the result of all the years that he DID have a problem even if he didn't have one anymore.

Damn!

He was supposed to play here on Dec. 16th with the Wildabouts.

RIP

It's so odd.... You see the rockers live the life they do and rarely do you hear a cancer death or heart issue death (unless drug related I mean) ... It's almost like the drugs preserve them in some way... If they can survive the bumps along the way....

The Stones... Aerosmith... 3 of 4 Beatles (Harrison cancer/heavy smoking)

RIP...Truly unique guy and I loved STP.

As far as grouping Layne with him and being as great vocalist...I think Scott was ten times the vocalist and I think Alice in Chains is just as good now and I think Jerry Cantrell's solo album was pretty good as well.

Jerry Cantrell was/is AIC but that is just my opinion.

One by one, the great voices of the era are going.

I hope Chris Cornell isn't next.

Core was one of my favorite albums ...... not a bad song on it.

Weiland had a really diverse voice. He had a way of going from a clean sounding voice to a more rough sound (similar to Layne) at any point. However, when it comes to vocal talent, I still put Cornell at the top of the list in terms of grunge music. Dude has some pipes.

Cornell was my favorite among the big grunge bands as well.
Although I don't think he has half the voice he used to have.

Another incredible singer who can sing with a dirty voice is Sully Erna from Godsmack. He is incredible live too. That dude can put on a show.

Yeah, he's what, 51 now? Father time and intense touring I'm sure played a part.

Thankfully, he truly seems to be truly clean these days, from what I'm reading.

I've never been a huge Godsmack fan. I do like his voice though, the live cover he did of the Judas Priest songs was really impressive.

When the Godsmack's, Disturbed's, and Seether's started to take the spotlight; my taste in music became a little more diverse. They didn't have as much of an impact on me like the original grunge bands or even early post-grunge bands due to me exploring other genres of music at the time.

However, Voodoo and Serenity are some quality songs.

I use the analogy that Godsmack is the 90s/2000s version of Black Sabbath. They are what I call a Groove Metal. They certainly can groove. :)

Currently they are my favorite band. :)

You should check out the songs 1000hp of the album of the same name and Something Different off the same album. Their self-titled album is awesome from start to finish.

I can't post 1000HP as there doesn't seem to be a Youtube that is radio edited. (the s word)

I've been meaning to get around to their latest album, from what I've read, it's a good album and better than The Oracle and Chapter IV. Since about 2012-2013, film and gaming kinda took over entertainment for me. I just now got back around to focusing on music, but I need to catch up on the folk rock and post-rock genre since they often produce my favorite music.

Just listened to "Something Different", and that is pretty good. Sounds like a song you'd hear from post-thrash Metallica (Not a bad thing, I actually liked 90s Metallica).

The human body can only take so much, my guess is even if he was clean currently the damage done beforehand came back to get him.
RiP

Still odd to see Keef and Lemmy walking around though.

Lemmy and Iggy Pop are the two that I'm amazed are still upright.

Cardiac arrest taking the life of a 48 year old man is highly suspect. Never the less... RIP.
